You’re a beach bum through and through, whether you choose the charming beaches off the coast of Barcelona or the tried-and-true Goa sands closer to home. But there is one question that we usually have: “How do I prepare for a beach trip?” While resting on golden-yellow beaches and bathing in the sun sounds great, you know you have to take care of your skin.
At the end of the day, while that bronzed tan is to die for, no one wants to get charred to a crisp. Splash around in those blue-blue oceans all you like, but when that sun damage shows up on your gorgeous face, you know it’s not going to be a pretty sight. So check out this beach vacation skincare routine to keep your glam game on point no matter where you go.
Here’s What Your Complete Skincare Routine By The Shore Will Look Like
Step 1: SPF = BFF
Make SPF your BFF, as we’ve said before and won’t hesitate to say again. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen and other sun protection measures before going to the beach should be your top skin care concern. This is due to the fact that spending time in the sun raises your risk of skin cancer and premature skin ageing. To reduce this risk, use a sunscreen with a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or greater on a regular basis, as well as other sun protection measures. These include wearing caps, hats and sunglasses and minimising your time in the scorching sun (particularly between 12 a.m. and 2 p.m.).
Step 2: Reapply, Reapply, Reapply!
It is not enough to apply sunscreen before going to the beach. Reapplication is also critical. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, you should reapply sunscreen every two hours. Practising beach volleyball or swimming in the sea? Use a water-resistant sunscreen and reapply it every two hours, as well as whenever you get out of the water and towel off. Make sure to pack a tube (or two!) in your beach bag so it’s conveniently available throughout the day.
Step 3: Pout It Out
Lips are indeed a spot that all of us miss when it comes to offering sun protection. Show your pout some love by using a lip balm with broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Step 4: No Makeup Kinda Day
Skip your makeup because you’ll be reapplying sunscreen every couple of hours while at the beach. If you wish to wear makeup, we recommend a tinted sunscreen that conceals blemishes while offering max protection. Perfect for the summer heat!
Step 5: Post-Swim Rituals
Your goal is to replace the moisture lost while frolicking in the sun. First, thoroughly cleanse your skin, especially if your sunscreen contains zinc oxide, which likes to adhere to your skin in order to protect it. Then, it’s time to recharge. Layer products with antioxidants and hyaluronic acid for a one-two punch, since antioxidants such as aloe vera and vitamin C can help reverse UV damage.
We hope you enjoy a relaxing day at the beach while taking good care of your skin!.
