The moment I hear Avika Gor’s name, I instantly think of Balika Vadhu. She started her career as a child actor in the show and has become one of the most sought-after stars in the South Indian film industry now. While Avika has moved on from the telly world, there’s one thing that still hasn’t changed—her unfiltered opinions. Recently, Avika spoke about nepotism in the South film industry.
In a conversation with RJ Siddharth Kanan, Avika shared, “When it comes to star power, South is all about star power. When it comes to nepotism, the word that we all are tired of hearing… South is all about nepotism. So cheezein bilkul wahi he (Things are the same for south films and Bollywood) It is just that audiences are not choosing to see it there the way they are seeing it here.”
Avika added that people have created a ‘bias’ about Bollywood and Hindi films are judged in the worst possible way.
The actress said, “Telugu industry mein ye (nepotism) toh ekdum saamne he. I mean how are people choosing to not see it? I think logon ne thoda hype kar diya is sab ko…and with time I hope ki social media bhi relax ho jaaye and ye bhi relax ho jaaye (Nepotism in the Telugu film industry is apparent. I think people have hyped the nepotism debate too much in Bollywood and I hope with time people on social media will relax).”
I totally agree with Avika. In the last couple of years, Bollywood has turned into a soft target, while everyone else gets a free pass. From Bollywood to Hollywood, nepotism is the dark reality of the entire entertainment industry.
It takes guts to speak about the hypocrisy of the audience when you are an actor. Kudos to Avika for showing courage and speaking the truth!
