Attention Beach Bums! This Is The Best Razor For Your Bikini Area According To An Expert

Let’s take a moment to close our eyes and thank God for razors. They deserve the credit for making hair removal hassle-free and painless–especially for the sensitive nether regions. If it wasn’t for them, pubic neat freaks would have a hard time going through painful waxing sessions every month.

Grateful as we might be, choosing the best shaving tool from the huge variety of razors can be quite confusing. Which razor is best suited for your sensitive privates? Which one will protect you from cuts and burns? Which one will shave off the coarse pubic hair easily? Choosing the right razor can be a daunting task, after all, it’s your sensitive genital skin at stake here. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We spoke to Dr. Noopur Jain, Founder, Skinzest, Gurgaon to clear the air on which razor works best for pubic hair removal. She imparted some in-depth knowledge about the two main types of razors to help you make the decision. Here are all the deets:

Single Blade Razors

As the name suggests, a single-blade razor has one sharp-edged blade to cut the hair close to the skin. It resembles the razors our grandfathers used to shave their side locks back in the day. While they’re safe to use on your privates, let’s weigh in on their pros and cons before you buy one.

Pros

A single blade razor is an excellent pick for sensitive skin. “It can give a close shave and leave the pubic area squeaky clean,” says Dr. Noopur. “It can also prevent irritation, burns and bumps and prevent ingrown hair post shaving,” she adds.

If you’re looking for the best of the lot, here’s our suggestion–Sirona’s Blink & Glow Facial Razor. It can be used on the face as well as the sensitive nether regions. Its stainless steel blades have a fine-tooth protection guard to prevent cuts. Its anti-slip grip handle is yet another feature that ensures strong hold and easy handling during use.

Cons

The only drawback of using a single-blade razor is that it can take some time to master the art of handling it correctly. “If you’re still in the learning phase, you might end up pressing the razor too hard or inclining it at an odd angle with the skin,” Dr. Noopur warns. This can lead to severe cuts and injuries.

Multi-Blade Razors

Multi-blade or cartridge razors have two or more blades placed closely together. The first blade pulls the hair up and the remaining ones cut it close to the skin.

Pros

Multi-blade razors are easier to use. “The high-quality ones can give a closer shave as there are more blades involved. They also prevent the risk of cuts,” Dr. Noopur explains.

Sirona’s 4-Blade Razor is hands down, one of the best quality multi-blade razors you can find. It has four Swedish steel blades to give you a close shave. It also comes with an aloe vera strip to moisturise your genital skin simultaneously.

Cons

Due to their mechanism, sometimes multi-blade razors end up cutting the hair too deep below the skin. “This can irritate the skin. It can also lead to pesky ingrowns as the hair that grows back can get trapped under the skin,” warns Dr. Noopur.

The Verdict

Choose your razor keeping your skin type and shaving skill in mind. “If you’re comfortable using a single-blade razor, you must go ahead as they can give a close shave without irritating the sensitive genital skin,” suggests Dr. Noopur. However, if you’re a shaving newbie, start with a multi-blade razor to remove your pubic hair. Meanwhile, practice using a single-blade razor on the rest of your body to get a hang of it. Once you master the skill, you can use it down there too. Cool, right?
