Athiya Shetty started many bridal fashion trends with her stunning wedding wardrobe. Her baby pink lehenga became an instant sensation and so did her boho co-ord set by Anamika Khanna. However, it was her traditional saree look that talked to us the most. Athiya opted for a gold tissue Kanchipuram saree by Madhurya Creations for her Muhurtham ceremony and paired it with a rani pink blouse. The actress looked divine in the traditional look and we just found out something even more special about her opulent drape.
Athiya’s stylist Ami Patel recently took to Instagram and shared the precious story behind her Muhurtham saree. She wrote, “This sari was woven by a weaver called Devi from the Tiruvannamalai district in Tamil Nadu, and her father is a master-weaver.”
Guess what? Athiya’s saree was such a big hit that orders started pouring in for Devi. “Since, Athiya’s worn the sari, Devi has expanded to 8 looms that have been continuously working to match the orders pouring in. 🫶🏻 She has enough work to support these looms for the next 3 months and still counting. By wearing this sari, she has not only supported the textile industry but also the helped educate many underprivileged children from the @artoflivingfreescools since the proceeds from the sale of these saris all go towards this cause,” Ami added.
Well, this is the beauty of Indian handloom. You don’t just buy a piece of art but also support livelihoods by investing in one of the artisanal designs. Isn’t this wholesome?
