Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma welcomed their baby girl, Vamika, in January this year. The two have been sharing updates about their daughter on their Instagram handles for almost a year now, but have refrained from revealing her face. While we are waiting eagerly to meet the little munchkin, we totes respect the couple’s decision. Earlier this year, the happy parents requested the paparazzi to not click Vamika’s pics in a statement that read, “Hi, Thank you for all the love that you have given us for all these years. We are happy to celebrate this momentous occasion with you. As parents, we have a simple request to make to you. We want to protect the privacy of our child and we need your help and support.”
The mom and dad wanted their daughter to decide if and when she’s comfortable sharing her pics with the world. While most of their fans respected their privacy, there have been some who have been violating it recently and that’s not okay. The NH10 actress recently took to her ‘Gram and shared a note asking the paps to avoid snapping her baby.
Recently, Virat was spotted leaving for South Africa for his next cricket tournament along with his wife and kid. Despite asking the paps to not click Vamika’s pics, a few of them did it anyway and shared glimpses of the baby on social media. Anushka called them out in her note and wrote, “As parents, our request to the few who carried the images/video will be to support us going forward.”
In an interview with Vogue in 2020, the actress had revealed that she didn’t want to raise her child in the public eye. She said, “I think it’s a decision your child should be able to take. No kid should be made to be more special than the other.”
She reminded the media fraternity of her decision and the reason behind it once again and wrote, “We seek privacy for our child and would like to do our best to give her a chance to live her life freely away from media and social media. As she is older, we cannot restrict her movement and hence your support is needed so kindly practice restraint in the matter.”
Anushka also thanked her fans and paps who have been respecting her daughter’s privacy and wrote, “We are deeply thankful to the Indian paparazzi and most of the media fraternity for not publishing pictures/videos of Vamika. A special thank you to fan clubs and people on the internet for going out of your way to not post images. It was kind and highly mature of you.”
Little Vamika will turn one on January 11 next year and while we would love to get a glimpse of the munchkin, we respect her parents’ thoughtful decision. By keeping her away from the limelight, they are giving their daughter control over her life.
