This Newly-Wed Couple Ditched Their Honeymoon Plans To Clean A Beach In Karnataka

If you have been active on social media lately, then you’d know that almost every A-lister in B-town is enjoying the beautiful beaches of the Maldives. Of course, we do have a lot of questions for them–the major one being whether they are aware that the world is in the middle of a global pandemic. But, we will leave that for later because right now, our attention has been caught by a couple who is cleaning beaches in India.

We are talking about a newly-wed couple–Anudeep Hegde and Minusha Kanchan–who ditched their honeymoon plans to clean up a beach in Karnataka.  Anudeep is a digital marketer who hails from the city of Baindur, Karnataka. After his wedding, he visited Someshwar Beach in Karnataka with his wife, and noticed that lately it had turned into a garbage dump.

Anudeep is quite passionate about nature conservation and the unfortunate condition of the beach made him take the matters into his own hands. As a result, the newly married couple, instead of going on their honeymoon, cleared around 800kg of waste in the past ten days. Anudeep has been sharing his journey of cleaning up the beach on his Instagram handle. In one of the earlier posts, he wrote, “As me & my better half @minukan continue in this journey, we made new friends. It’s amazing to see how people want to join hands and contribute. More then 500 kgs of waste has been removed off the Someshwara Beach . As we are getting closer to our goal of clearing this stretch, I’m only getting more impatient to see this happen. Few more days to go.”

Gradually, his posts started making the rounds on the internet and the movement gained the momentum that it very much needed. Several people came forward to help the love-birds clean up the beach. In one of his posts, he wrote, “What started as a two people’s dream & post wedding challenge, after 10 days of relentless effort to clear waste from the Someshwara beach,Byndoor turned into a mass movement today. More then 800 kg of waste was removed from the beach to the date. A very special heartfelt thanks to Hassan & team & Manjunath Shetty ( Manjunath Medicals Byndoor ) for joining hands with us. It was a very humbling experience and my faith on humanity just got restored. We all seek the same thing , we just need someone to motivate & create awareness. Together we can make so much difference. A perfect satisfying Saturday for us.”
