Bihar, one of the largest states in India after Uttar Pradesh, is all set to hold State Legislative Assembly elections in October 2020 in order to elect 243 members of the Bihar Assembly. Earlier, the contest was straight between four main political parties: Rashtriya Janata Dal, Janata Dal (United), Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress. However, now a fifth political party called the ‘President Of Plurals’ has been floated by London-based Pushpam Priya Choudhary, who has also declared herself as the chief ministerial candidate from Plurals for the upcoming polls in the state.
For quite a long time in the 2000s, the politics in Bihar was marred by weak governance and corrupt politicians making their routine trips to the prison. The candidature of Ms Choudhary, however, comes as a breath of fresh air at a time when Bihar has been witnessing only male CMs for the last 15 years with Rabri Devi being the last woman CM from March 2000-2005.

Who Is Pushpam Priya Choudhary?
Ms Choudhary recently published an advertisement on her Twitter account, which has further been shared across the state of Bihar. It talks about her party and how she feels ‘Bihar needs change.’ Take a look at the post:
Bihar needs pace, Bihar needs wings, Bihar needs change. Because Bihar deserves better and better is possible. Reject bullshit politics, join Plurals to make Bihar run and fly in 2020. #PluralsHasArrived #ProgressiveBihar2020 pic.twitter.com/GiQU00oiJv

Daughter Of Janta Dal (United) Leader
Pushpam Priya Choudhary is the daughter of JD(U) leader and former member of the legislative council (MLC) Binod Chaudhary. She was born in Bihar’s Darbhanga and is currently living in London. Surprisingly, she did not choose to be a part of the JD(U) and decided to come up with her own new party to ‘reject bullshit politics’. That’s a first in Indian politics!

A London School Of Economics Post-Graduate
Pushpam Priya Choudhary has also furnished details of her educational qualifications in the ad. She holds an MA in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom and another Masters of Public Administration degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science in the UK. But will her impressive academic accolades translate into good governance? Time will only tell.
A Follower Of Gandhi’s Values
In one of her posts on Twitter, Ms Choudhary said, “Mohandas & I – when Experiments with Truth meets Determination to Change!” Clearly, she is quite determined to bring about a change in the face of Indian politics. For a country that is infamous for corruption, an educated leader will hopefully bring about a sea of change.
Bihar is currently ruled by a JDU-BJP-LJP coalition and only time will tell if the populace of Bihar will go against the current establishment to vote for a fresh face.
