Alia Bhatt is on a winning spree! From making her Hollywood debut to becoming the first Indian global ambassador for Gucci, she is doing it all. However, when you are trying to do it all, you might slip up sometimes. Perhaps that’s what happened with Alia at the Gucci Cruise 2024 runway show in Seoul.
During the event, Alia spoke about the importance of empowering women and gender equality. The actress said, “If she is empowered, if she is productive within herself, she will be productive at home for her children, for the community, for the country. And that has a ripple effect on everyone connected to the women. My name is Alia Bhatt and I chime with the women in India.” Scroll down to watch how Alia chimed in for gender equality:
While Alia truly believed in her opinion, not everyone agreed with her. Her statement confused a lot of folks on Reddit. One user commented on her video and wrote, “I think I need women in Bollywood to learn to pass on the mic when it comes to feminism. They’re clearly extremely ill informed, weirdly avoidant and spreading dangerous misinformation.”
Another commented, “Bade bade words use karne se samajhdar nhi bante, like this makes no sense alia.” Take a look at what other Redditors had to say about Alia’s statement:
IMO, Alia’s saying a woman should be uplifted so that she can be more productive at both work and home is problematic. Is she trying to say that a woman’s worth gets increased when she effortlessly manages both home and work? That is a dangerous line of thought to thread. And while I understand where Alia is coming from, she could have picked a better way to voice her thoughts. Perhaps that would have made her message stronger and more relatable!
