Alia Bhatt may not have received her Hogwarts letter at the age of 11, but there sure is a seat on Hogwarts Express with her name on it. As someone who’s not just a Potterhead but a Ravenclaw, it’s a pretty good validation when I say that about Miss Bhatt. I’ve read the books cover-to-cover, done Harry Potter movie marathons like a hundred times (I survived my Board Exams on these), and probably nailed every HP trivia that’s there in the world but never have I ever enjoy an audiobook as much as I did this one. Alia recently read a chapter from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first book!
As a fellow Piscean, I relate hard to Alia on many levels but this new connection between us is…what’s the word I’m looking for…magical.
Yesterday, Alia did a reading of the book for the ‘Harry Potter At Home’ initiative started by the Wizarding World. With almost the entire world on lockdown, Wizarding World started this cool book reading with celebrities from all over the world. “Surprise! We’ve got a treat for you… From today, amazing friends of the Wizarding World are going to take turns reading Harry Potter book one,” they announced on Instagram earlier in May. “That’s not all! Over the coming weeks, we’re going to be joined by other familiar faces reading all 17 chapters of Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone,” the post further said.
From India, Alia did the reading of Chapter Eight: The Potions Master with Hollywood star Alec Baldwin and I gotta say, she’s a damn good orator. And she got a damn good chapter to read! #ProfessorSnape, “always”! Her expressions and narration were simply bewitching. Check out a glimpse of it below and a heartfelt caption by the actress:
“Two months ago Harry, Hogwarts, and the wizarding world walked into my life and almost immediately, in my heart. Somehow, when I was younger life always intervened and I never quite got around to befriending the books.
But. Just like magic, two months ago, I did.
And, just like magic, I was asked to be a part of Harry Potter at Home.
10 million points to Gryffindor! 💜”
A true Gryffindor indeed! Hooked already? Here‘s a link if you want to listen to the whole reading by Alia with Alec and his li’l daughter Carmen as they introduce you to Professor Severus Snape, the Potions teacher at Hogwarts. You’re very welcome! 🙂
The first Harry Potter chapter ‘The Boy Who Lived’ was read by none other than the boy who lived aka Daniel Radcliffe himself, who played the character of Harry in the movie adaption.
