Yesterday at the 69th Annual National Film Awards hosted in Delhi, the pedestal for Best Actress was shared by superstars Alia Bhatt for Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Kriti Sanon for Mimi.
Both films are based on true stories, and the actors really hit the ball out of the park with their performances. But you know what I think is cool? How their makeup played a big part in curating that award-winning persona.
So I’ve put together a list of well-loved products you can use, you know if you ever need to look intimidating (but in a good way).
Heavy Kajal
There is a heavy emphasis on the kajal in each look, so for the proper level of depth and drama—you can use my personal favourites, the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal and the MyGlamm Superfoods Raven Kajal. They highlight your eyes really well and also double as a liner when needed.
Bindis
The bindis added an extra layer of authenticity to each character’s appearance. You can choose to skip this if you’re out of bindis, but I suggest using the POPxo Liquid Eyeliner Kit to draw it on instead!
Now, something interesting to note is that even though their looks had quite a few similarities, the end result turned out quite distinct for each of them. And that’s because there were subtle little differences when it came to their brows and lips!
Brow Definition
Alia’s character in Gangubai sported bold and well-defined eyebrows for which I recommend the Makeup Revolution Brow Pomade.
On the other hand, Sanon’s character had more natural, and thinner eyebrows that were dark and filled in, which this NYX Professional Makeup Micro Brow Pencil is perfect for.
Bold vs. Nude Lips
Gangubai’s lip makeup involved deep, bold shades that complemented the character’s assertive personality, and the film’s period setting. Alternatively, Kriti’s character in Mimi opted for a more natural, subtle lip look.
You can get nude or bold shades in this Myglamm Popxo Makeup Collection Mini Lip Kit!
While the similarities contributed to the narrative of each look, the differences in their brow and lip makeup kind of gave us more depth into who these characters actually were. And to both the leading ladies – well deserved!
