Diwali is one of my favourite Indian festivals. It’s that time of the year when I actually take the effort to dress up. I go shopping for the perfect festive outfit and choose a makeup look to go with it too. In fact, the dressing up and makeup is not just limited to the day. The numerous card parties and family dinners start almost 10-12 days before the festival. While it’s all fun and games till Diwali, you get a reality check once the party is over. My skin for that matter looks like it’s been through a war! The late nights, unhealthy food choices and layers of makeup take a toll on the health of my skin. If you too are in the same boat, here’s some help. With proper care, you can bring back the glow! 

Here’s A Mini Guide To Skin Detox After The Festive Season

Skin detox is a form of self-love too. When you’re happy and healthy from within, it shows on your skin first. That’s what we’re gonna learn today. Here’s how to detox and give your skin a well-deserved break for putting up with your festive shenanigans. 

Scrub The Gunk Off

You need a beauty product more powerful than a cleanser to help unclog your pores. A scrub would do your skin good in this case. The one I’m lovin’ at the moment is this Balinese Boreh face scrub from POPxo. Take A Break From Makeup

Cut Down On Sugar


Continuing to consume sugar-rich foods even after Diwali does more damage than good. It will break you out as it spikes up the body’s insulin levels and damages both, collagen and elastin, in the long run. Satisfy your cravings by opting for foods that are rich in alkalines like berries, lemons, oranges, bananas, peaches, watermelons and oranges. These are loaded with vitamins and water. Imagine how much your skin will benefit from this!

Hydrate Your Skin

I’m not going to mother you about how much water to drink. However, I am going to tell you that it’s good for your digestive system and skin. You can easily tell if a person is dehydrated or not by the way their skin looks. Are their lips chapped? Is skin peeling off from the bridge of their nose? Has their skin started to look stretched, shrivelled and tired? Any of those signs do not indicate health. Take baby steps. Start with 4 glasses of water and gradually increase your intake. Feel free to add lemon juice and honey for taste! 

Moisturise Like You Mean It

Just because you are on a makeup break, doesn’t mean you can take a break from skincare as well! Don’t forget the basic cleansing, toning and moisturising. Follow the CTM routine once in the morning and once at night. Moisturising is especially important if you want baby soft and nourished skin.
