If porn is your primary source of sex education, then boy oh boy, you need a new (and better) source stat. What we see in these films is usually an inaccurate and terrible representation of adult sexual behaviour. Also, most of the steamy sex scenes shown in Hollywood movies set unrealistic expectations in our heads and are not real either. Well, ‘most’ of them.
It turns out that sometimes, actors engage in actual sexual acts in front of the camera and what we see on our screen, is not fake at all. Lie With Me (2005)
Lie With Me revolves around Leila, played by Lauren Lee, and her commitment issues. Her relationship with David, played by Eric Balfour, suffers terribly as she struggles with the fear of emotional intimacy. The actors have performed most of the sex scenes for real and during a conversation with an international daily, Lauren said, “Let’s face it, at some point in any actor’s career, you have to get naked—whether physically, emotionally or mentally. This movie offered me the chance to do all three at once.”
The Brown Bunny (2003)
The movie is about Bud Clay, played by Vincent Gallo, and Daisy, played by Chloë Sevigny. The former is a motorcycle racer who’s unable to forget his former lover. His relationship with his new girlfriend is complicated and while talking about it in an interview, the actress said, “What’s happened with that is all very complicated. There are a lot of emotions. The film is tragic and beautiful, and I’m proud of it and my performance.” The movie created quite a buzz when it released because of all the graphic sex scenes.
Antichrist (2009)
Antichrist, apart from having some really creepy horror scenes, have several unstimulated sex sequences as well. Honestly, they can disturb you for days as certain segments in the movie are quite explicit, violent, and tormenting.
Shortbus (2006)
This erotic comedy-drama revolves around Sofia, played by Sook-Yin Lee, a couple’s therapist who’s unable to experience orgasm with her husband. After visiting a sex salon called ‘Shortbus’, her life changes for good. In several scenes, she and other leading actors can be seen indulging in several unconventional sexual activities and most of them are real.
Nymphomaniac (2013)
The movie is about Joe, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, who reveals her past sexual encounters with Seligman, played Stellan Skarsgård. During a conversation with a leading daily, actor Shia Labouf, who played one of Joe’s boyfriends, said, “There’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening.” While the scenes were real, they were actually performed by porn stars.
Love (2015)
This romantic drama follows a young man named Murphy, played by Karl Glusman, who’s in a relationship with his girlfriend Electra, played by Aomi Muyock. Their bond changes completely when they let a third person get involved in their lives intimately. Most of the unstimulated sex scenes in the movie are quite erotic and will make you blush.
Little Ashes (2008)
Robert Pattinson plays the role of a painter, Salvador Dalí, in Little Ashes. The movie is a Spanish-British drama set against the backdrop of Spain during the 1920s. He falls in love with his friend, Federico García Lorca, played by Javier Beltrán, and his feelings confuse him. In one of the scenes, Rob can be seen masturbating and it turns out that he was not faking it. In an interview with a leading international daily, he said, “It (faking it) just doesn’t work, so I pleasured myself in front of the camera. My orgasm face is recorded for eternity.”
