Bring ‘Em Back! 6 Shows From The 90s That Deserve A Reboot

As millennials, we often find ourselves wondering how our life would be so better if we could just get our favourite shows back on television. So, when we heard the announcement that the Japanese game show Takeshi’s Castle is all set for a reboot, we all instantly started jumping with joy.

For most of us 90s kids, Takeshi’s Castle was one of the most loved shows in India for all the right reasons. Now, all we can do is wonder about all the shows that really need a reboot STAT.

So this one is for all the desi kids out there who would rush home after school and stay glued to the TV for hours. We might not have done our eyesight any favours, but we all surely have tons of memories.

Boogie Woogie

Before there was Dance India Dance or India’s Dancing Superstars, there was the OG king of dance-based reality shows—Boogie Woogie. It was judged by brothers Jaaved Jaaferi and Naved Jafri and actor/producer Ravi Behl. The show was truly one of a kind as it was just about dancing and no emotional masala. A while ago, Naved shared that he is ready to get back to the show if someone plans a reboot. In an interview, the reality show star said, “We can still hold the audience and we still have a lot of people out there who still love and appreciate our work. So, I think we are all there. We are ready. We would love to do it.”

Son Pari

On a personal note, I just sang ‘Mumkin ko namumkin kar de namumkin ko mumkin, sonpari sab hal karti hain sabki mushkil sabse‘ in my head right now! The show was a wholesome story of a young girl who receives a magical gem that connects her to two magical beings—Son Pari and Altu. What follows is a number of misguided adventures and a whole lot of laughter.

Shaka Laka Boom Boom

Let’s be honest, at one point everyone has tried to look for Sanju’s magic pencil from Shaka Laka Boom Boom! The show was a massive hit as it had the perfect blend of magic and friendship. TBH, no one can ever forget its iconic title track as well. Now, that’s a show that must be rebooted STAT.

Dhoom Machaao Dhoom

Before Toral Rasputra was our favourite Anandi from Balika Vadhu, she was our favourite guitarist called Priyanka Sethi. The daily show was based on 16-year-old high school girls who form a pop band called Pink band and fight against all odds to win a talent show. Not the most original plot, but you can never go wrong with a tried and tested formula.

Office Office

Before we all discovered Michael Scott from The Office, we had Pankaj Kapur as the quintessential common man called Mussadilal. The satirical comedy show was not just hilarious but also quite thought-provoking. It is a perfect show to reboot as it is still so relevant to our times.

Aahat

Forget The Conjuring or Veronica, the biggest jump scare came in the form of Aahat’s background score. This show defined the horror genre for most of us and it is about time that we get an Aahat reboot.

Which one of these do you miss the most?
