There are three crucial elements in a romantic movie: a love story, a dreamy background score and red roses. Whether a character wants to apologize or confess how much they love someone, these flowers are used as a token of love in movies. To celebrate the first day of this romantic week, we have listed some scenes from our favorite movies where roses played an entire character in their own right. Read on.
1. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge
It would be unfair to talk about romance and roses without starting with this scene. It’s adorable how Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) thinks that he’s just pranking Simran (Kajol) with a water-squirting rose, but it’s actually how their love story truly began. It will always be one of the most iconic scenes in our film industry.
2. Khoobsurat
It’s never too easy to confess our love without knowing what the other person thinks about us. In this scene, Inder (Rakesh Roshan) admits his love for Manju (Rekha) by simply putting a rose on her dressing table, and the latter reciprocates her feelings by slowly bringing the flower near her cheeks to feel his love. Too adorable!
3. Kal Ho Naa Ho
In the middle of a romantic movie, there are some scenes that are emotional and break the audience’s heart. This movie made us all bawl like a baby, especially when Naina (Preity Zinta) lands at Aman’s (Shah Rukh Khan) door, with a bouquet, to confess her love for him. The roses, that were originally given to her by Rohit (Saif Ali Khan) as his token of love for her, finally landed up at her house for her grandmother. From one individual to another, this bouquet of red roses played an important role in three different love stories.
4. Silsila
Sometimes, we are lost for words when it’s a twisted love story – like Amit (Amitabh Bachchan) and Chandni’s (Rekha) in this movie. However, nothing speaks louder than a bunch of roses without speaking anything at all. When she meets her former lover, after many years, and has no words to say, she gets him flowers. What we see next is the most painfully beautiful 40 seconds of love, hurt and reminiscence.
5. Dil Chahta Hai
There’s no doubt that romance in its initial stage is exceptionally beautiful, especially when you don’t realize that you are in love and are just friends. Throughout the Jaane Kyon Log Pyar song, Shalini (Preity Zinta) is trying to convince Aakash (Aamir Khan) how beautiful love is. He might have not agreed with her by the time this song finished, but he did give her a rose that brought a smile to her face. If this isn’t love, we don’t know what is!
What are you waiting for? Take that rose and give it to someone you love!
