There has been a long-standing discourse on the key differences between models from the 90s and current-day models. Such is the reputation of 90s models, that everyone is aware of how they were deemed as supermodels, a term which is rarely or enthusiastically used anymore. Of course, the fashion industry looked very different in the 90s, the struggle that most models went through was much, much harsher back then. The beauty standards were impossibly unachievable, and the idea of diversity didn’t even exist properly, so the cost of entering the profession was much higher. To make it in such a toxic industry, as unfortunate as that is, does in some ways end up building your character and resilience – which deserves respect.
90s models were called supermodels for a reason. Which is why, we’ve compiled images of the iconic women to remind us all of how stunning and fierce they were.
