Out of all the reasons why YJHD still rules our hearts, my personal fave is how the styling in the movie was way ahead of its time. Be it Deepika Padukone’s floral summer dresses as ‘scholar Naina’ or her tiny cholis and blingy shararas after her transformation to va-va-voom Veronica, we desi fashionistas still drool over it all. Manish Malhotra’s top-notch styling and Deepika’s utmost elegance made the character of ‘Naina’ what it is today!
As YJHD recently embarked upon its 10th year, let’s look at some of the iconic outfits worn by Naina Talwar in the movie! Scroll down:
Nerdy But Make It Fashion!
DP aka Naina Talwar nailed travel OOTDs way before it was a thing. This next-door-girl avatar of Naina flaunting a floral dress with a denim jacket totally has our hearts. Complemented with a pair of retro glasses, a hairband, and a rusty crossbody sling bag, it makes for a perfectly effortless yet chic look.
Lehenga With A Twist
Naina Talwar dared to style a sultry contrasting tube top with a lehenga way before Komal Pandey made it a trend! For her BFF Aditi’s haldi ceremony, Naina made sure to perform the bridesmaid duties to the T, but in style. She wore a tangerine lehenga paired with a rani pink tube-styled choli and a peach-coloured dupatta. Not to mention, the little potli bag on her waist that is adding much-needed drama to her look.
The Iconic Saree
Unless you’re living under a rock, you must know about this iconic saree that broke the Internet in 2012 and has now become the national farewell look! Paired with a black-sequinned blouse, this blue-coloured ruffled saree makes for the perfect sangeet ensemble. Gotta give it to the stylist for ditching the jewellery situation and maintaining the balance.
Naina’s red hot sharara pants paired with a tiny choli continued to be the IT sangeet look for years. Her sharara bottoms were accentuated by heavy sequins and beads while the thigh-high long slits and golden belt upped the stylish quotient by several notches. She teamed it with long earrings, bangles, and rings. Now that’s how you make history.
Tenu Suit Suit Karda!
One of the key elements of Naina’s post-transformation persona was her intricate salwar suits. What wooed us the most of all was her embroidered sky-blue kurta paired up with contrasting peach salwar and dupatta. The entire ensemble perfectly captured the essence of the woman she had become, adding a hint of charisma with the plunging neckline and intricate jhumkas. A 10/10, fo sho!
Stealing The Limelight & How!
Don’t we all have that one BFF whose life’s mission is to outshine everyone at a wedding? Guess she takes cues from Naina Talwar. The moment we saw her bridesmaids’ avatar with Kabira playing in the background, our hearts skipped a beat. The look comprises a heavy-looking embroidered lehenga paired with a cutesy blouse that highlights her abs in the best way possible. NGL, she did outshine the bride with this look.
How I wish to recreate all these iconic Naina outfits! (once I get my hot summer bod back)
