‘Twinkle Bomb’ Memes & Other Times Women Were Targeted For A Man’s Failure

All the controversy, commotion, and social media protests around Akshay Kumar starrer Laxmmi only continues to thicken as the film inches its OTT release today. While the LGBTQ+ community has been protesting against the film’s trans negative messaging, certain Hindu outfits have also urged for the film’s boycott by saying that the film hurts religious sentiments and insults Goddess Laxmi.

And while Akshay Kumar has stayed mostly mum on the topic, Twinkle Khanna recently decided to address the issue on social media as well as through a column in a leading media daily. However, contrary to what you might expect, Twinkle hasn’t defended the film but sarcastically called out the trolls who have been dragging her in the controversy and circulating morphed pictures of her. That said, it’s obviously not the first time that a celeb’s wife has been dragged, trolled, and insulted for something that they had nothing to do with. In fact, just to prove our point, here are five recent instances when a woman was blamed for a man’s fault or failure:

Twinkle Khanna Trolled For Akshay Kumar’s Film

While protesting against Laxmmi, the trolls decided that it is somehow a good idea to edit Twinkle’s picture and call her ‘Twinkle Bomb.’ However, taking it like the sport she is, she wrote on Instagram “The trolls are so helpful just when I was looking for the supporting image, here it is:) Crop rather than repost-you will see why in my column today. One tagged this picture with a comment, ‘Third class person. You make joke about God.’ I am almost tempted to reply, ‘God clearly likes a good joke, otherwise she would not have made you.’ By the way, I think I am going with the new skin tone and bindi that looks like a true-blue bombshell 🙂 #DiwaliBombshell.”

Twinkle further addressed the issue in her The Times of India column and wrote, “The trolls have been after the man of the house’s Laxmmi Bomb and for some odd reason, they have taken pictures of me, turned my skin the same peacock shade as Lord Krishna, added a red bindi and are sharing posters called Twinkle Bomb. Honestly, I am rather flattered because this moniker has come along at the right time for, as a middle-aged woman, I was beginning to think that my bombshell days were far behind me.”

When Sunil Gavaskar Made A Distasteful Remark On Anushka Sharma

Instagram

We were in for quite a shocker when a highly accomplished sportsperson like Sunil Gavaskar decided to make an off-hand remark on Anushka Sharma while in the commentary box. It all transpired during a recent IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab where the former’s captain, Virat Kohli was in bad form. And while Sunil Gavaskar’s job as a commentator was to comment on what could have gone wrong and how it would affect the team, he decided to take it a step further and crack a tasteless joke by involving Anushka Sharma in the conversation. “Ab jo lockdown tha to sirf Anushka ki bowling ki practice ki hai, wo video dekhi hai, usse to kuch nahi hona hai.” Roughly translated to, “During the lockdown, he has just practised to Anushka’s bowling, there’s a video. But that’s not going to be enough.”

We are glad that Anushka too decided to address the comment by writing: “I’m sure you can have many other words and sentences in your mind to use to comment on my husband’s performance from last night or are your words only relevant if you use my name in the process? It’s 2020 and things still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements? Respected Mr Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman’s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this.”

When MS Dhoni’s 5-Year-Old Daughter Received Rape threats

Instagram

In MS Dhoni’s case, it wasn’t his wife but their 5-year-old daughter who ended up facing the heat and getting trolled after his weak performance in a recent IPL match. It got so bad that a 16-year-old guy from Gujarat went to the extent of giving rape threats to her on social media. Thankfully, the guy was later detained by the police. Quite appalled by the audacity, celebs condemned the threats on social media and expressed concern over the fact that the trolls aren’t even shying away from sending rape threats to a 5-year-old child these days.

“All the players giving their best, sometimes it just doesn’t work but it’s doesn’t give anyone any authority to give a threat to a young child #mentality #respect,” Irfan Pathan wrote reacting to the same.

When Rhea Chakraborty Got Blamed For Sushant’s Drug Abuse

Instagram

So much has been said regarding the alleged involvement of Rhea Chakraborty in Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death. And while none of this has been proved yet, Rhea’s involvement in the B-Town drug abuse row led to her being vehemently trolled and questioned. In fact, not just random trolls on the internet but Sushant’s ex-girlfriend Ankita Lokhande and Kangana Ranaut also questioned Rhea for letting Sushant take drugs. As ludicrous as it sounds, she was blamed for getting Sushant, an adult, addicted to drugs!

“When she very well knew about his mental state by publicly stating that he was in depression. Should she have allowed a depressed man to consume drugs? His condition would deteriorate to a level that would make a man take the action that SSR has allegedly taken. She was the closest person to him at that time,” Ankita wrote on social media questioning Rhea.

Well, isn’t it a tad too much to blame a woman for her ex-boyfriend’s drug addiction?

When Kim K Got Trolled & Shamed For Kanye’s Breakdown

Instagram

It was during his election bid that Kanye West left everyone obviously uncomfortable after what can best be described as a rambling speech in Charleston that was supposed to kickstart his White House bid. During the speech, his problematic comments about renowned American abolitionist Harriet Tubman and how he wanted to abort North (his first child from Kim Kardashian) left everyone shocked. Recollecting his troubled childhood, the rapper ended up breaking down in tears on the stage itself.

More commotion followed after Kanye decided to go berserk with a slew of cryptic tweets about Kim. In the tweets, he called Kim a “white supremacist”, claimed that she was trying to keep him locked up and that he’s been wanting to divorce her for some time now. The tweets were later deleted, not before generating much frenzy and speculations though.

However, the most shocking part here was how Kim was trolled on social media for Kanye’s behavior. She was accused of making a mockery of his mental health and also making money out of the crisis. I mean how insensitive is it to target a woman right after intimate details from her personal and married life have just been laid bare to mock and jibe at? Also, from professional failure to ideological fallacies on a man’s part, why is it our first instinct to somehow drag and insult the woman in his life for the same? I mean wouldn’t it be way less complicated and logical to hold men accountable for their shortcomings? Like seriously, why do we keep doing this?

Lastly, women are not punching bags! Can we please stop targeting them to evoke a response from the men in their life?
