Deepika Just Called Working With Director Shakun In Gehraiyaan An “Exhausting” Affair & We’re Concerned

Deepika Padukone’s upcoming film, Gehraiyaan has been the talk of the town ever since the actress shared BTS pictures with the cast, which went viral in no time. In the romantic drama, the actress will be seen sharing screen space with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday and we can’t wait to watch the trio. This is Deepika’s first time working with director Shakun Batra and we wonder if it’s the last? During a recent interview, the Cocktail actress opened up about her experience of collaborating with Shakun and called the process “exhausting”. Ouch! 

While talking to the leading daily, Deepika stated that if an actor has worked on Shakun’s set, they can easily work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She said, “We basically say or I have started saying to him now that if you work with Shakun Batra, you can work on a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film because he’s just not happy.” However, the actress quickly explained, “I am joking about the complaining part of it but I love his process because it’s exhausting. Literally from the time you are on the set to the time you leave, actors are on their feet the whole time, except the lunch break.” Gotcha, didn’t we? 

Deepika also mentioned that she enjoys having the freedom to improvise her dialogues in both Shakun and SBL’s films. She said, “I use a pencil to change my dialogues. Some writers are not okay with that. They are very sort of married to the dialogues they write. You cannot change anything. Kabir [Khan] for example. Shakun or Sanjay are open to making the dialogues your own as long as you get the essence.” She further added that she marks the words that don’t sit right with her or don’t feel natural, and writes on the side to improvise. That makes a whole lotta sense. After all, it’s the actor who needs to grasp the dialogues in order to deliver it in the best way possible, no? 

Well, we’re glad Deepika enjoyed working with Shakun in the movie and we can’t wait to watch the film on February 11. The first look of Gehraiyaan was out a few weeks ago and left us intrigued. Here’s hoping the trailer comes out soon!
