Anushka Sharma Just Opened Up About Virat Kohli Stepping Down As The Captain And It’s Making Us Emotional AF

NGL fam, Sunday doesn’t feel like a Sunday today, and it has everything to do with Virat Kohli. The cricketer surprised everyone by announcing his decision of stepping down as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team in the test format yesterday, and we’ve been heartbroken ever since.

Virat took to Twitter and shared, “It’s been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance every day to take the team in the right direction. I have done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test captain of India. It’s now.” He also thanked BCCI for giving him the opportunity to lead the country, and his former head coach Ravi Shastri and ex-skipper MS Dhoni for their constant support in his journey as captain. Have a look at his tweet here:

Anushka Sharma, who always supports her husband through thick and thin, took to the ‘gram to share her feelings about his decision to step down.

The actress shared a carousel post on Insta with a heartfelt caption that is making us emotional AF. In one of the pics, Virat can be seen laughing and in another, Anushka can be seen kissing him. In the caption, she shared her thoughts on his journey, and how proud she is of his growth. She wrote, “I remember the day in 2014 when you told me that you have been made the captain as MS had decided to retire from test cricket. I remember MS, you & I having a chat later that day & him joking about how quickly your beard will start turning grey. We all had a good laugh about it. Since that day, I’ve seen more than just your beard turning grey. I’ve seen growth. Immense growth. Around you & within you.” She further elaborated how proud she is of his growth as the captain of the Indian National Cricket team and the achievements the team has had under his leadership. We totes agree with her.

She also revealed that they were young and naive seven years ago to think that just good intentions, positive drive and motives would be enough. “They definitely do but, not without challenges. A lot of these challenges that you faced were not always on the field. But then, this is life right? It tests you in places where you least expect it to but where you need it the most,” she said.

Anushka also mentioned that it’s Virat’s unpretentious and straightforward attitude that she admires the most about him. She opened up about how she is proud of him for doing the right thing always, no matter how difficult it is. The actress concluded by saying, “Our daughter will see the learning of these 7 years in the father that you are to her. You did good ❤️.” It sure does feel like the end of an era, doesn’t it?

Well, here’s wishing Virat all the very best for his future. We’re sure he’s going to surprise us with great things ahead.
