The Actor Who Believes In Activism
Swara Bhasker's acting prowess, unapologetic attitude and earnest activism needs no introduction. With no personal connections in an industry infamous for nepotism, Bhasker rose to prominence for her roles in movies like Tanu Weds Manu, Nil Battey Sannata and Veere Di Wedding. She has won several awards, including Best Supporting Actress for Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa, as well as 'Confident Beauty of the Year' at the Lux Golden Rose Awards. But Bhasker is more than just a pretty face in Bollywood. She has often made headlines for her bold, outspoken comments on India's socio-political climate, and has never shied away from speaking her truth. In 2019, she ventured into film production and launched her own company called Kahaaniwaaley.
Swara Bhasker's 2020 Power Move
The 2020 pandemic triggered one of the worst migrant crises in India. Disturbed by the plight of the migrants, she called the crisis "the most shameful and severe human impact story of our time." Fed up by government inaction, she extended her support by facilitating the return of around 1,350 workers to their homes in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Bhasker also donated 3000 pairs of slippers to migrant workers in shelters operated by the Delhi government.
