Take a shot if you’ve ever slept with your makeup on! Yup, we know you’re taking one right now! However, not just this many of us don’t realise but we make a million beauty mistakes throughout the day and our skin and hair pay the price. This may be because we are serial procrastinators or we simply don’t care. Whatever the reason may be, one thing is for sure- it definitely hampers our beauty game.

However, one thing you should know- it’s never too late to rectify your mistakes. With that being said, here are some common beauty habits that you need to break up with ASAP.

We all have some bad habits that we aren’t proud of. And in the beauty world, those problems can affect the way our skin looks later in life. Time to break up with them, for good!

Using Makeup Wipes

After a long day of work, you do want to remove your makeup and just laze in bed. However, reaching for those makeup remover wipes on your vanity is a bad idea. They are terrible for the skin and leave residue behind. They’re also terrible for the environment.

The Perfect Alternative: Either use a cleansing oil, cleansing balm, or micellar water to remove your makeup. And if you do not have any of these, then do a double cleanse before sleeping and you’ll be surprised how good your skin feels in the morning.

Picking At Our Skin

Raise your hand if you can never leave those pimples alone. *raises both arms and legs* 

Not only is it super satisfying to pop the pimples but it also kind of helps in reducing the size too. But popping pimples like bubble wrap also leaves a nasty scar behind and nobody wants that!

The Perfect Alternative: Either use spot treatments like acne patches or just leave them alone. They will eventually leave your face so no need to ‘force’ them.

Over-Exfoliation

Exfoliating your skin regularly is the key to remove dead skin cells, dirt and also make your skin feel smoother to touch. But over-exfoliating your skin removes the top layer of the skin. And that’s why you should exfoliate your skin not more than twice a week and follow it up by applying your fav moisturiser and SPF.

The Perfect Alternative: If you’re using any sort of harsh exfoliators such as an apricot scrub, just toss it away. Look for a gentle exfoliator that you can use 2-3 times a week or mix just a teeny-tiny bit of scrub with your face wash and clean your face.

Experimenting With Too Many Different Products

Ever since Instagram and TikTok came into our lives, we’ve been hoarding our beauty vanity with products pe products. Every day, there’s a new product that people cannot stop raving about and we just have to get 

The Perfect Alternative: If you have a skincare routine that works well for you, then stick to it. And if you wish to try new products, then do it one by one. Do not change your skincare routine completely but introduce your products slowly, especially facial acids.

Using Expired Makeup

If you are constantly spending all your money on newly hyped products, then you have a problem, my friend. Hoarding makeup sounds amazing but it also doesn’t allow us to use all our beauty products to their full potential. And after some time, they expire!

It’s time to toss all your expired makeup products today as they are really bad for the skin! Using them can lead to breakouts, skin purging, and even severe allergic reactions.

The Perfect Alternative: All makeup products have an expiry date. And if you want to minimise your makeup waste, here’s what you can do- buy mini-sized products and shop for multipurpose products. If you love experimenting with different lipstick shades, then you should totally buy a lip palette!
