What, according to you, is the most distinct quality that stands out in the lehenga as a garment?

It’s effortlessly grand and complete in itself. It’s a silhouette that has celebration etched all over it!

As a shopper, what should a bride-to-be keep in mind when picking one up for her big day?

It’s crucial to pay as much attention to the blouse of your lehenga. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colours as long as you are opting for one that fully complements you. And don’t forget to give thought to the dupatta that will round off your look.

What are the styles or kinds of textiles in lehengas you see gaining more prominence with new-age brides?

Rich flattering silk, organza and chiffon are the ones gaining more popularity in this domain. As for styles—solids, florals and timeless art pieces with a blend of new techniques are a hit among modern brides. On the other hand, beautiful layers, dramatic sleeves, versatile and classic styles are forever favourites.

How important or unimportant do you find trends when it comes to making a selection?

More than trends, I think it’s the vision of the client that plays a major role in making a selection. Essentially, bridal wear, irrespective of trends and the season, revolves around grand, elaborate work and stunning silhouettes that can make heads turn.

Other than the traditional palette, what colours do you think always work with respect to the bridal lehenga?

Apart from the traditional vibrant hues like reds and yellows, a lot of nude hues and pastel palettes of ice blue, pink petal and lilac seem to have gained quite the acceptance.

For someone looking to go off-route with their look, what would be your suggestion in picking a style?

Other than the much-discussed and loved pantsuit bride in recent times, grand silhouettes like kurtis with ghararas, long anarkali styles or straight kurtis with pants can be a few of the off-route options for those looking for something other than a lehenga. Sarees with a contemporary twist like ruffled trim, or accentuated with embellished belts are also some styles a bride can experiment with.

Is there new-age styling hack that you would recommend for brides-to-be?

Since the winter chill is still in, picking two dupattas is an equal parts striking and sensible option, in my opinion. Other than that, the whole layering your ensemble with capes and jackets is also something that catches the eye because chic quirk takes the centre stage.

A common mistake that you find brides often making in the process of selection or styling?

Most brides get carried away with the trends. They’re blinded by the lights and miss the bigger picture. In the long run, that unique look goes for a toss. It’s important for a bride-to-be to envision her dream dress based on a few inspirations and then let the expert take charge after that.

A celebrity wedding look that stood out for you and why?

Anushka Sharma’s wedding look will be one of my favourites. It’s a simple, delicate and classic bridal look for me. You just can’t go wrong when you’re in a classic Sabyasachi lehenga, traditional Indian jewellery and minimal makeup.
