Starring Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy and Domhnall Gleeson, the Richard Curtis-directed British rom-com is perfect if you are looking for an intriguing and light Friday night watch.

    The Age Of Adaline

    Starring Blake Lively, Harrison Ford and Michiel Huisman, the Hollywood fantasy movie revolves around Adaline (Blake Lively) who, after a near-fatal accident, becomes immune to growing old. While her loved ones and the family she has grows older, she remains the same age for decades, changing identities and moving places so that no one discovers the unexplainable secret. However, things change when she meets a new love. As she goes on a trip to meet his family, things she had left behind in the past begin to unravel.

    The Lord Of The Rings

    Based on a popular series of books by J. R. R. Tolkien, the film series comprises three different movies— The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003).— all of which progress with the same set of characters and their journey. Touted as one of the best series of fantasy movies, the film is set in a fictional world of hobbits. The plot begins with the sudden disappearance of Bilbo Baggins and a ring that he leaves behind. With dark powers that can be damaging if passed into the wrong hands, the ring’s hypnotic powers can only be gotten rid of when it is destroyed. The trilogy moves around this premise, involving fictional characters ranging from elves, wizards, dwarves and more.

    Dark Shadows 

    Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows is a fun watch in terms of the top fantasy movies, encapsulating the director’s distinctive touch. Incorporating satire and low-key starts, the horror-comedy stars Johnny Depp as Barnabus Collins, who was doomed to live as a vampire by a jealous witch and lived in a coffin for the better part of 200 years. When he returns home, Barnabus, now a pale-faced creature who must avoid the sunlight, sees that everything around him has changed, his family gone, the business in ruin and his weird descendents unbothered. Along with learning the functions of the current day and age, Barnabus must also compete with Angelique, the witch who cursed him to lead his life this way.

    Based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, the gothic horror film has Keanu Reeves in the lead and let us just say it will keep you up at night after you have watched it. Though there have been many versions that have been made over the years, we recommend this one with its treatment of the mythical plot, making the fantasy movie one you definitely shouldn’t be missing out on.

Part sci-fi, part thriller, the Academy Award-winning top fantasy movie from 2016 is bound to blow you away as the plot unfolds.

    Harry Potter

    The much-hyped and best fantasy movies of all time, a series of eight films that released over years, Harry Potter needs no introduction. Based on novels that were set in a fictional wizarding world, the movies are a cinematic marvel that derived from it. The Boy Who Lived or Harry Potter survived Voldemort, who vanished the night when the latter attacked him as a baby. With his parents dying in the same attack, Harry lives with his difficult aunt, uncle and cousin and knows nothing of his fame in the wizarding world, until he receives a letter from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, inviting him to join. The eight films, beginning from Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone and going till the two parts of The Deathly Hallows, follows the adventures of Harry and his two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger, and the many challenges they must overcome to defeat the Dark Lord, who is waiting to come back. Though the film never won an Oscar, the decade-long run earned the series 12 Academy Award nominations.

Back from the jungles of Jumanji, where he was sent to by the mysterious board game when playing with his friend, he, along with the rest, set upon to finish it as creatures from the jungle descend upon the town as this fantasy adventure movie progresses.

    Doctor Strange

    Also from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, a neurosurgeon who wishes to heal from an injury but instead, upon trying to find a cure, ends up discovering the power of magic. With an array of brilliant special effects and witty dialogues, the action-fantasy movie has its fair share of interesting artefacts (think a Cloak of Levitation) and more that makes it a must-watch superhero film.

    The Lion King

    Rated as one of the best Disney fantasy movies, the Jon Favreau-directed 'The Lion King' is the story of the little cub Simba, who is heir to the throne after his father Mufasa. But not everyone is happy with his arrival in the jungle. Due to scheming and tricks by his brother Scar who wants the throne for himself, Simba ends up in exile. With a stellar cast that includes voiceovers by Beyonce, James Earl Jones, Donald Glover, Seth Rogan and many more, amongst others, The Lion King and the many visual effects it incorporates makes it a must-watch.
