#MyStory: I Tried Four DIY Home Remedies For Acne Scars So You Don’t Have To

Coronavirus has changed everything around us, to say the least! Our work schedules, our lifestyle and even our priorities in life. We were re-introduced to coffee with the Dalgona trend and then came the banana bread. A lot of dance trends took over and if I had to talk about the beauty world, the word maskne started flashing everywhere. Maskne is acne caused by wearing masks and I have been a victim!

I cannot tell you how much money I’ve spent in the last two months on anti-acne creams, face packs and even gels. While some products did work, it’s the acne scars that refuse to budge. That’s when I did what most of us would- search Google and ask friends for the top DIY home remedies to get rid of stubborn acne scars.

DIY Home Remedies For Acne Scars

Before you try them out, remember that I’m sharing my personal experience. What worked for me, may not work for you. And there’s a chance that a remedy that failed me, might actually help you.

Applying turmeric on acne has been blowing up on TikTok for quite some while now and I decided to hop on this trend and boy, what a mistake! Not only did the lemon juice irritate my skin, but it took me at least 5 washes to get the yellow stain off my face. Did it work? Well, not really. It in fact made my acne scars more prominent than ever and made me super conscious about my face 😞

Cloves And Rosewater

DIY Recipe: 10 crushed cloves with 4-5 drops of rosewater.

Okay, so this one my friend had suggested and honestly, it is really annoying just to make it! It takes effort and is time-consuming. The first step is to crush the cloves properly and then add the rosewater to turn it into a pack. It didn’t really help with acne scars but definitely reduced the size of acne. Also, being a ‘chunky’ pack, it barely stays on your face and you’ve to lie down to prevent it from slipping off your face. And that smell, it is too strong!

Fresh Aloe Vera Gel

DIY Recipe: Applying layers of fresh aloe vera gel

Okay, this was was really good! I have tried market wale aloe vera gels before but that didn’t do anything for the scars. However, applying fresh aloe vera gel worked wonders. I simply plucked an aloe leaf, washed it and applied the gel directly on my face. I kept it on for two hours and not only did it moisturize my skin but my acne scars visibly reduced in a few attempts. Since this worked in favour, I now apply 2-3 layers of aloe vera gel on my face every night. I let it dry before I hit the bed and wash my face in the morning. I do this thrice a week and loving it so far.

Tomato Juice

DIY Recipe: Applying tomato juice directly on scars.

Disclaimer: This one’s a winner! I cannot tell you how amazing this actually is. My acne scars were reduced to half when I woke up the next morning!

All I do is make a tiny cut on the top of the tomato so only the juice comes out (it is a task to separate the seeds from the juice) and apply it on my face after I’ve applied a thick layer of moisturizer. I would advise you to NOT apply it overnight if you have sensitive skin. Just like lemon juice, tomato too has citric acid. But it works for me and I apply it twice a week.

I’ve never really had skin issues but wearing a mask every day is giving me new tenants on my face. However, the mask is important and so is taking care of your skin. So see what works for you and stick to it!
