After Glass Skin, Here’s All You Need To Know About The ‘Glass Hair’ Trend & How To Get It

After Glass Skin, Here’s All You Need To Know About The ‘Glass Hair’ Trend & How To Get It

Back in 2017, one of the biggest Korean skincare trends was ‘glass skin’. Luminous glow, squeaky clean pores and clear skin that resembled glass took the beauty world by storm. And why not! While ‘glass skin‘ will always be in, allow me to introduce you to another glow-rious beauty trend, the aftermath if you will, called ‘glass hair’. What is it and how to get it, you ask? Read on!

Everything About The ‘Glass Hair’ Trend

Needless to say, it has nothing to do with actual glass. However, it involves a sharp haircut that looks shiny and polished, just like glass! Here, take a look:

Gorgeous, right? Introduced by British Hairstylist & Businessman Vidal Sassoon in the ’60s, the trend was brought back to fame by celebrity hairstylist Cash Lawless. He believes that short, geometric cuts make the hair look glossier. Not that we are complaining!

Kim Kardashian’s hairstylist, Chris Appleton, also experimented with this hair trend and is the one responsible for Kim K’s iconic super-sharp shiny bob.

Many of his followers were curious to know how he styled Kim K’s hair to which he replied on his IG, “The inspiration was 90s swishy glass hair. I wanted to create a really intense shine and for the hair. I cut Kim’s hair shorter than we’ve ever done before just underneath the jawline, keeping the cut blunt with no angle. For me getting an intense shine was a really important part of our look.”

Talking about the look in detail, he went on to say, “On wet hair, I applied @ColorWowHair #DreamCoat then blow-dried the hair using a large round bristle brush. Unlike the sleek styles we’ve done in the past we wanted the hair to have some volume, so I kicked the ends under for the cute 90s twist. I always finish off with a drop of #ColorWowHair Pop and Lock just to finish off the shine and lock in the style. Hope this answers all your Qs.” And that it did!

How To Get ‘Glass Hair’ At Home?

If you have short hair, your time to shine is now. And since we don’t have a celebrity hairstylist at our beck and call, might as well learn how to style our hair at home, am I right?

Step 1: Prep your hair

Glass hair looks best on clean hair, so make sure that your hair is washed and the scalp is free from product build-up. Just how you would moisturise your skin before applying makeup, you have to moisturise your locks, too, before using hot tools. After shampooing and conditioning your hair, apply some hair serum to damp hair. A good quality serum will make the locks smooth, shiny and manageable. That’s exactly what we’re going for, here and always!

Step 2: Straighten your hair

Once your locks are dry and hair strands are coated with serum, straighten your hair with a flat iron. While you’re at it, don’t forget to brush your hair simultaneously for a poker-straight look.

Step 3: Finish off with a hairspray

For the final touch, use an anti-frizz hair spray to tame flyaways and add that extra boost of shine. #POPxoProTip: Don’t spray the product directly to your hair, but instead on your hairbrush and then comb it through.
