You’re Brushing Your Hair From Top To Bottom

Most people brush their hair from their scalp to their ends but this could be extremely harmful to your hair. It damages the strands because it pulls the knots and causes tension in the midsection of your hair and thus causes frizziness. You should actually be brushing from the ends of your hair and move upwards so that by the time you reach your scalp the rest of your hair is untangled and you can brush it smoothly.

You Could Be Using The Wrong Type Of Hair Tool For Your Hair

Did you know that the type of hair you have determines what tool will work best for you? It’s like skincare for your specific skin type. If you have hair that just won’t corporate, use a detangling hairbrush ie a tangle teaser works that wonders in the shower. If your hair tangles fast, using a normal paddle brush just won’t do- it’ll cause breakage and hair loss. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your tresses. If you have thin hair then you can look for a soft brush with boar bristles so that it adds some volume and doesn’t cause further damage and breakage.

You Aren’t Detangling Your Hair Before The Shower

Your hair is actually at its most fragile state when it’s wet so combing it then and detangling it then might actually be a really bad idea. But what to do about the knots? Brush your hair just before you’re going to hop into the shower and you’ll be able to see a difference in your hair fall levels.

You’re Over-Brushing Or Under-Brushing Your Hair

Now with the beachy waves, I-woke-up-like-this trend everywhere, and with not having to go anywhere (thanks, coronavirus) people are not brushing their hair nearly enough. Brushing your hair is actually good for your hair growth as it distributes the oils from your scalp to the rest of your hair and improves thickness. And you could also be over-brushing your hair if you’re doing it many times a day. The perfect amount is brushing it twice a day but you have especially tangled hair then removing the knots through the day is a good idea.

You’re Not Cleaning Your Hair Brush Enough

Whatever type of hair you have- you need to clean your brush regularly. It gets all the hair that’s fallen in it stuck and also collects all the product and scalp debris in it. If you don’t wash it enough you may even see the bristles becoming oily all thanks to the natural oils from your hair. Cleaning your brush at least twice a week is mandatory- remove the excess strands, then soak the brush in a mixture of hot water and a clarifying shampoo for a few minutes and leave it to dry. It’ll help your brush last longer and keep your hair from becoming greasy.
