Don’t Suffer, Use Sulphur: Why This Magic Ingredient Might Help Zap Those Pesky Pimples

Our skin is so moody and unpredictable sometimes. One day it’s as clear as a crystal and the next day, pimples be popping on our faces outta nowhere! Even after religiously following our skincare regimen and pampering our skin with the best of beauty products, sometimes our skin just doesn’t behave. The solution to all your skincare woes may lie in one product and you wouldn’t even realise it until you try it out.

We’re talking about one of the best anti-acne agents, ie. sulphur! Keep reading to learn more about why you should incorporate this miracle worker into your skincare regimen today.

What Is Sulphur?

Sulphur (not to be confused with sulphate), is a naturally occurring mineral that unfortunately smells not-so-pleasant. It is a keratolytic (it softens the epidermis to prevent clogging of pores) agent which also reduces the formation of bacteria in our pores, helps dry out pimples, reduces the appearance of acne and acts as a natural exfoliant. It gets easily absorbed into our skin and helps us achieve the skin we always dreamed of.

Sulphur In Skincare

Using sulphur in skincare is not a recent discovery but has been used for many centuries, we’re talking ancient history! It is mainly used as an added ingredient in skincare products that helps manage the frequency of breakouts and also helps reduce the appearance of excess oil. So, it’s a great addition to your skincare routine if your skin has more oil than the oil rigs in Dubai or if you’re constantly breaking out.

People who have super sensitive skin or skin problems such as eczema or rosacea should avoid using it, as sulphur doesn’t have any soothing properties. If you do have a pesky pimple or a large whitehead, using a suplhur product as a spot treatment is a great idea, but with the suggestion of a dermatologist of course.

If you do have dry skin, remember that this is a drying agent and you might end up with worse results than before. Especially if its found as an active ingredient in products such as clay or mud masks. Even a hint of fragrance-related ingredient or another drying ingredient can trigger the skin in most unpleasant ways.

To ensure that a sulpur product isn’t sucking the moisture out of your skin, look for other ingredients that are known to soothe and hydrate the skin, such as Vitamin E or glycerin in your products.
