Why Does Your Scalp Itch During Monsoon & What Can You Do To Stop It? We Tell You!

Why Does Your Scalp Itch During Monsoon & What Can You Do To Stop It? We Tell You!

The only good thing about the summer of 2020 is the shower of blessings from the Rain Gods! At the expense of sounding too filmy, yes, my inner self dances to chak dhoom dhoom every time it rains but my scalp? Let’s just say it feels like having a permanent scratch card…on my head.

Do you also feel itchiness or irritation in your scalp during monsoon? Well, excessive humidity levels in the air can lead to the formation of bacteria and fungi (definitely not a fun guy to hang out with) in our hair and skin. Hence, all the scratching and itching. On top of that, if you get seasonal dandruff that only pays you a flaky visit around this time, then you, my friend, need to keep on reading.

Why Is My Scalp Itching And How To Put A Stop To It?

An itchy scalp can be due to various reasons such as allergy, sunburn (wear a hat!), loss of moisture, dandruff, poor diet, dandruff, or even fungal infections. The ideal first step would be to keep your scalp clean and hydrated at all times. To get rid of all your hair woes, a proper hair care routine is required. And here it is:

Wash Your Mane

The best way to put a stop to constant itching is by taking a cold shower or simply pouring a mug of cold water over your scalp. Avoid using hot water on your head as it strips away hair’s natural oils. If possible, try using a paraben and sulphate free shampoo while washing your mane. Our hair loves the tender loving care of natural shampoos and shampoo bars, did you know? Well, now you do.

Condition, Condition, Condition

Unless you have sensitive skin on your scalp or severe hair fall problem, always use a conditioner after shampooing your hair. #ProTip: Rinse off the conditioner with cold water to lock the much-needed moisture in.

Regular Oiling Is A Must

The best solution to curb constant itching is nourishment and there’s nothing better than a good ol’ champi for that purpose. In a microwavable bowl, mix equal parts of coconut, castor, and olive oil with a few drop of tea tree oil, heat it for about 30 seconds and apply it directly to your scalp. DIY hot oil massage to the rescue! #ProTip: Bend over your head and massage starting from the back of your head working up to the scalp and then the length. This will not only make the oils penetrate deeper into your scalp but also boost hair growth tremendously.

At-Home Hair Spa

Anything natural such as a homemade hair mask or a DIY hair spa can do wonders to your scalp. And since we don’t know when we’ll meet our parlour wali didi again, time to work our magic from the comfort of our homes. In a bowl, mix two tablespoons of curd and one whole lemon’s juice and apply the mixture to your scalp. Wash it after 45 minutes and say hello to an itch-free scalp!

Say No To Heat-Styling

Extreme heat styling tools such as a blow drier, hair straightener or an electric comb will only worsen your hair’s condition. Refrain from using heat-induced tools and let your hair dry out naturally. It’s anyway easier to air-dry your hair in summer. Applying a nice hair serum to damp hair is all the healthy styling you need to keep your hair and scalp moisturized.

Eat, Drink, Flip

The path to having flip-worthy hair begins with what you eat and drink. Having a proper, balanced diet plays a very important role in keeping hair healthy inside out. Drink loads of water, oil your mane regularly, eat foods that are rich in zinc, consume hair supplements like biotin, and you shall have amazing hair in no time.

So, are you ready to flip and slay? We know we are!
