In the wake of increasing coronavirus cases in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended the lockdown period further till May 3. While some people are completely okay with this new routine, others are finding it difficult to self-isolate. Especially newlyweds who are stuck in quarantine with their new families.
If you are locked up with your in-laws and are finding it tough to find your space in the new household, here are six ways you can bond with your partner’s family. Not only will these result in a healthier relationship, but will also help you bond and understand each other better. And of course, it makes the quarantine period smoother for everyone.
Here are six things that will act as ice-breakers with your new family.
With no official and social commitments, you definitely have time to step into the kitchen. Instead of one person taking up the responsibility to cook for the whole family, do it together. Propose a family cooking session and assign different tasks to each member. Trust us, it'll be a great bonding time and reduces the stress on one person!
Do you offer and accept help from your in-laws? If not, this is the time to do so. Offering or taking help from your mother-in-law or father-in-law will only strengthen your bond. Maybe you can help your FIL with his finances and he can show you a new trick in the kitchen! Everyone feels great when they can be useful to the other person!
As you will have a lot of spare time on your hands, make sure to utilise it properly. The lockdown period shouldn’t be all work, right!? You can spend time playing Uno, Zenga, Ludo or other interesting board games. Trust us, you're never going to find the time for this again and who knows, even after the situation settles down, weekly gaming sessions become a family tradition!
Is there a better way to bond with your MIL? No! Homemade face scrubs, hair packs and the works. You can even give her a trim and just maybe she can help thread that nasty moustache that's shown up!
Quarantine is not giving your body much exercise and a good 40-min workout sesh is essential for your health and immunity. At least once a week, workout together with your new fam. You can teach them Zumba and maybe your mom-in-law is good with yoga. You can even whip up some healthy smoothies for breakfast after the workout. Sounds great, right!?
It's most important to take care of yourself for your mental peace. So don't forget to indulge in a self-care routine. A long, relaxing bath, a hydrating face mask or a quite reading sesh... Take time out for me-time.
Let's get this party started, shall we?!
