Can a girl stick to just using one lipstick for her entire life? Well, Nidhi and I from POPxo are totally the opposite. We're so crazy about lipsticks that we own (or should I say hoard) a lippie in every shade and texture! Since liquid matte lipsticks are comparatively long-lasting than other formulas, we decided to do a fun challenge at work. The two lipsticks we chose may have the same bright red colour and liquid formula, but one's a drugstore product and the other let's just say - burns a hole in the pocket.
Sharon: Not going to sugarcoat this, but I'm a messy eater. After lunch, the lipstick colour thankfully wasn't all over my face. However, it did fade. Even though the bright, orangy-red lipstick shade looked gorgeous, it did dry my lips out. Maybe if you wear it for a couple of hours and not indulge in any eating or drinking, it could work in your favour, or else, you'll have to reapply.
Nidhi: I'm an extremely messy eater and I nibble on lots of titbits during the day. I've had a cup of coffee, a few glasses of warm water, my ginger lemon tea and a chicken roll for lunch and a protein bar as a snack. I'm pleasantly surprised with how well the lipstick has lasted despite all this munching. My chicken roll was pretty oily so the lipstick has worn off in the centre. If you eat with a fork and a spoon, I suppose the lipstick will last you a lot longer. While the formula is drying, it doesn't bother me much.
Lipstick tried: M.A.C Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour - Feels So Grand (Rs 2,200)
Conclusion: Both the lipsticks are fantastic. However, there was a visible difference in quality. Both faded in the middle of the day, but one stayed on for longer than the other. The winner here is the MAC lipstick! The colour stayed put for 6 long hours and barely budged.
However, the one con in both these lipsticks were that they were equally drying. Our lips felt flaky and rough at the end of the day. However, this depends from person to person. Here are the pros and cons for both of them - If it's for an everyday lipstick colour that you're looking for, the Maybelline New York Sensational Liquid Matte Lipstick in shade 01 To The Fullest, is a good lipstick to start with. It's an affordable and easy formula to work with. Even if it does end up bleeding, the lipstick won't be all over your face. It will just fade. However, if you're a messy eater, then reapplication would be required every two hours.
For party nights and client meetings, the M.A.C Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in shade Feels So Grand, is perfect. It has a rich texture and looks fabulous when applied to the lips. Hardly any touch-ups required. Then again, you get what you pay for, right?
So ladies, which of these liquid lipsticks would you pick? I'd suggest both! One for everyday wear and the other for grand occasions.
