Not A Period Drama, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Next To Be On The Balakot Air Strike

When Sanjay Leela Bhansali announces a new project, we can’t help but picture grand sets, gorgeous costumes, elaborate storylines and DeepVeer. But, as they say, people can surprise you.

SLB’s next is NOT a tragic love saga but a film based on the recent Balakot air strike conducted by the Indian Air Force on February 26 this year. His banner, Bhansali Productions, announced this in a tweet calling it a “tribute to the sons of India and their never-say-die spirit”.

For the film, big names from the filmmaking industry including Bhushan Kumar, Mahaveer Jain, Pragya Kapoor and Abhishek Kapoor will reportedly join hands with SLB. The film is under Abhishek Kapoor’s directorship, who is known for movies like Kedarnath, the Rock On series and Go Goa Gone. “I remember the emotions that ran through the entire country when the strike was carried out. I am determined to do justice to this story in my endeavour to bring it to the silver screen,” he said in a statement. Abhishek will also be writing the film’s script.

On February 14, 40 CRPF jawaans were killed in a terror attack on their convoy in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir. The Balakot air strikes on February 26 were a response to that attack. The Padmaavat director said this film will be his tribute to our soldiers “who have made India their priority”. “It is a story of bravery, patriotism and love for the country… We endeavour that their story and bravery reaches to everyone in the right way,” he further said.

Talking about the movie, producer Bhushan Kumar said, “This will be one of our biggest projects for next year. It’s extremely close to all of us at T-Series because of the sentiment it carries. I have always been a patriot and it gives me immense pleasure to present the story of bravado of our IAF officers.” He also mentioned Wing Commander Abhinandan calling him “a national hero”.

This will be the second film around the February air strikes after Vivek Oberoi’s upcoming Balakot – The True Story.

The makes haven’t confirmed other details related to the cast of the film and the film’s release date. Stay tuned to this space for more updates!
