A full-coverage foundation is one of those amazing beauty products that all of us must have in our beauty closet. Ever so often, we all battle skin woes like acne scars, blemishes and uneven skin tone and if there is one thing that we all wish for in that moment, it's perfect skin. A full-coverage foundation will do just that - give you an airbrushed, selfie-ready complexion. It will cover, correct and conceal all in one go. No layering necessary. That means you can skip using multiple products over it to perfect your skin. Sounds like a boon for days when you need that extra pick me up, doesn’t it?
A full-coverage foundation is a foundation that’s packed with pigment. It offers your skin coverage without needing to add multiple layers of product onto your face. It covers up all minor and major imperfections like acne, blemishes, hyperpigmentation and even scars. It functions as your corrector, concealer, foundation and setting powder all in one.
Much like you would use any other foundation, you could use it with a brush, a sponge or even your fingers. If you want an extremely skin-like airbrushed finish, use a damp beauty blender. It's a method I personally recommend to all my friends. It's the best way to apply a full-coverage foundation. Dab the foundation into your skin using a beauty blender and your makeup will be practically undetectable. A flat-top kabuki brush used with a foundation will give you the best possible coverage - but it might not look as natural. You could also use your fingers to blend, but it won’t give you an even application.
Convinced you need a full-coverage foundation? Luckily for you, foundation happens to be my favourite makeup product to buy, test and review. So I did some digging (mostly through my makeup drawer) and found you 12 of the best full coverage foundations you can buy in India and even online. For ease of picking one that’s perfect for you, we’ve sorted them according to skin types.
If you have normal skin, you should consider yourself pretty lucky because absolutely any type of product will work for you. There are plenty of foundation formulas in the market that are the perfect balance of matte and dewy. They’re going to give your skin a gorgeous satin-finish while covering every blemish in sight. Here are the best full-coverage foundations for normal skin. And always remember, even though your skin is normal - you must moisturise before you apply foundation. A hydrated base will ensure that your makeup looks as natural as possible.
The iconic beauty influencer turned mogul Huda Kattan has her very own line of makeup and let me tell you, it’s absolutely amazing. The faux filter foundation, true to its name gives your skin full-coverage while making it appear almost as if you applied a filter to it. It blurs pores, conceals, corrects and covers all the scars and blemishes. The texture is like a whipped liquid, mousse-y, thick but extremely blendable. It is not one of those foundations that gives you a natural skin-finish. If someone looks at you up close, they would be able to tell that you're wearing makeup. If you take lots of selfies, you would definitely love this one. It is, however, a fragranced formula so if you are allergic to perfume, try it before you buy.
Are dark circles the bane of your existence? This 2-in-1 foundation and concealer from Kiko Milano is a great choice for the girl on the go. The packaging includes an applicator wand which makes concealing and applying foundation on your face a completely mess-free experience.
This is an exciting foundation for someone who wants more bang for their buck. It’s completely customizable - right from the colour, the coverage to even the finish. Unlike other K-beauty makeup products, this one comes in 42 different shades to choose from. Choose one from the 3 finishes: Matte, Semi-Matte and Glow. And if that didn’t excite you enough, the foundation also has skincare benefits. It has a special mix of ingredients including Jeju yellow volcanic scoria powder, Jeju Lava seawater mineral powder and white cover mineral powder which provides natural coverage and helps in achieving clear and radiant skin.
Looking for an affordable foundation for your normal skin? Maybelline’s super-stay range has some great formulas. This foundation has an extremely liquid-runny consistency making blending it out an absolute pleasure. It also comes with a pump (unlike Maybelline’s other foundations.) The coverage is more than medium and can easily be built up in areas that need a little extra love.
People with oily skin are usually more susceptible to acne. If you struggle with oily skin you know it’s hard to find a foundation that’s long-lasting on your skin. Because of the excess oil secreted by your pores, any makeup on your skin breaks down and this is what keeps your skin from looking fresh and flawless all day. People with combination skin usually have a problematic T-zone with dry cheeks. These foundations are perfect for all of you people with oily, acne-prone and combination skin. They’re going to keep your skin looking matte and shine-free AM to PM.
If you’re looking for a foundation that makeup artists and beauty influencers all over the world love and adore, it’s the M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid. It’s a thick, creamy but very blendable formula that offers long-lasting oil control and can be built up to give your skin full-coverage. It’s also got a hint of SPF which is always an added bonus. It doesn’t crease, photographs brilliantly and blurs the appearance of pores. This one will take you from AM to PM without needing to be reapplied. Just make sure you hydrate your skin well before application. This will help the foundation glide on to your skin easily.
If you’re looking for an affordable full-coverage foundation, L’Oreal makes one of the best drugstore foundation formulations. This particular foundation is touted to be a dupe for a luxury foundation from the house of Nars. It’s creamy, extremely easy to blend and sets down to a powder matte finish. You don’t even need to set it with powder. It controls oil, survives a day at the beach and in the pool. It blurs pores and even photographs like a dream - at the price you pay, it’s definitely a steal.
Can’t seem to find your shade in most foundations? This one from Estee Lauder comes in 55 different shades so no matter what skin tone or undertone you are, finding your shade match is going to be pretty easy. Moreover, the foundation has been around for decades and is definitely a cult-favourite product. The formula is pretty fluid, sets itself to a satin-matte finish, won’t transfer or smudge and you can definitely rely on it to get you through the longest, hottest of days.
If you’re looking for a slightly whipped foundation, give this one a shot. The texture is somewhere between a liquid and a gel foundation. It’s lightweight and airy but provides you with full coverage. It’s not going to clog your pores or cause acne and it has oil-controlling active ingredients that will keep your face matte. It leaves your skin with a radiant-matte finish and nobody’s going to know you’re wearing makeup. Just ensure you apply a good moisturiser underneath!
If you have dry skin, you need a hydrating foundation. This will keep your skin from drying out through the course of the day. It’ll also prevent your skin from looking dry and flaky and keep any creasing and cakiness at bay. A hydrating foundation will give your skin that subtle boost of moisture without making it seem like you’re wearing a ton of makeup. Here are some of the best full coverage foundations for dry skin you can buy in India.
This is one of my new favourite foundations. I was thrilled to see it launch in India. Not only is the formula a complete delight, but it also blends into your skin in a minute - barely any effort needed. If a dewy skin is your favourite, get this one. Don’t be fooled by the dewy finish this gives you though, it covers and conceals very well. If you have fine lines under your eyes and around your mouth, I recommend you set this with translucent powder. It’s one of the most natural-looking foundations I own. While I’m not sure of the 24-hour wear claim, I can vouch for a 9 am - 9 pm wear.
This foundation can actually be used on all skin types. If you have dry skin, a little bit of moisturiser and a few small swipes of this along your T-zone is enough to cover up most minor discolourations. It’s intensely packed with pigment so apply less and gradually build coverage. On areas that need a little more coverage, you can dot on a little extra. The formula is creamy and quite smooth. It blurs out the appearance of your pores while giving your skin a healthy glow! The best part is that it comes with a blending brush built into the packaging.
This L.A. Girl foundation is supposedly a dupe for a luxury foundation by Make Up For Ever. Having used both, I can tell you this - at one fourth the price for its high-end counterpart, I’m absolutely not complaining. It’s a lightweight liquid foundation that’s going to give your skin a dewy finish. The coverage is medium-full and because the formula is so forgiving, you can easily build it up without looking cakey. I would, however, recommend setting this one with loose powder to avoid creasing.
This lazy-girl approved stick foundation is quite handy. It’s a small stick that you can easily toss into your purse. It’s creamy and easily blendable and leaves your skin with a natural radiance. Blend it with your fingers or with a brush, the application will be smooth and seamless.
I hope my list of full-coverage foundations helps you with your next buy!
