Every girls’ trip itinerary shouldn’t just start and end with Goa. Like, come on, guys! India is a HUGE country with beautiful places to visit. Driving, flying or boarding a train - the mode of transport is for you to choose and decide. What I’m about to reveal to you are places which are safe, fun and something that your squad will enjoy. So ladies, whatcha waiting for? Let’s get exploring!
When I went to Pondicherry, I took a flight from Mumbai to Chennai and then cabbed it out at Pondicherry. This place is so chilled and peaceful. Whether it’s Pondy or Auroville, I recommend that you and your girls spend half of your trip in both places. There are plenty of cafés at White Town in Pondicherry. To get around the place, you can rent cycles, cars or scooters - personally, I recommend cycles. I think you guys will have more fun on them - plus, they’re good for the environment.
I’ve been there once and it was absolutely magical! It’s at the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat. The best part is that it’s one of the largest salt deserts in the world. The best time to visit is during the winters. October to Feb are pleasant. Also, you can take pretty pictures of you and your gang either early in the morning or in the evening!
This is definitely a cheaper alternative to the Maldives. To reach Havelock island, you must board an AC catamaran ferry. It takes about 90 minutes to reach Havelock from Port Blair. Is it worth the effort and time? Of course, it is! You either relax at Radhanagar, go scuba diving at South Button and Inglis Island or swim with the elephants at the Elephant beach. Such a fun girls day out plan, no?
Daman is hardly a 3-hour drive from Mumbai. If one of the girls can drive down there it would be nothing like it. You don’t need to take a week leave to explore Daman. All of it can be seen in just 24 hours. Having your own vehicle would make life more convenient. Apart from the forts, you can explore the Jampore and Devka Beach. The booze is also cheap and so is the seafood there. It’s like a mini version of Goa (Only Goa is a bit cleaner)
Do you and your girls like adventure sports? Then Rishikesh is your place to chill and have a blast! Over here, you can go river rafting, bungee jumping, try flying fox and even camp by the river Ganga. If you’re a fan of the Beatles, make sure that you visit their Ashram here. The band made several trips here and created some of their music here too. Even though the Ashram is abandoned, you’re free to drop by and pay tribute to your favourite stars.
If your girls are into the Indie music scene, they will definitely love to be apart of Ziro Music Festival. The Fest is on for 4 days and claims to use eco-friendly resources. Last year it happened in September, the dates are yet to be announced for this year. Also, please note that there are no direct flights to this place. Guwahati in Assam is the nearest airport to this place. From Guwahati, you can either drive down or board a train to Naharlagun. From there, it’s about 3 hours by cab to Ziro.
Like the Stonehenge, Hampi is a mysterious place to visit. If you didn’t know, Hampi is a UNESCO world heritage site. You have to visit the Virupaksha temple there - it’s a beautiful sight. In fact, the whole city has a raw and ancient vibe to it. Yes, it’s that place that has plenty of coracle boats to try and take pictures at. Don’t forget to drink coconut water and chill near Lotus Mahal.
