Let me tell you that my boyfriend is somebody who absolutely hates his birthday. He always wants to have a low key scene and not do anything too crazy or fun. For the past three years that we've been together, it's just been a couple of us celebrating his special day. Well, this time I wasn't going to let it be like that. I decided that I wanted to plan and throw a surprise birthday party for him and that's exactly what I did. Spoiler alert: he loved it.
So here's exactly how I went about it and here is everything you need to know about planning a surprise party:
I created a Whatsapp group with all his friends about a couple of weeks in advance and decided what all to do. Everyone took the responsibility for something different thing and I took on the role of the main organiser. We decided to do the soiree at my place as it was going to be convenient for everyone.
Because it was going to be at my house I knew I had to add some elements into the house. My mother would get super angry with me if the wooden furniture got wine stains on them so I decided to buy some coasters to avoid the same.
I picked these from POPxo shop which went with my electric decor for the party and they were a big hit.
I also did up my entire house with fairy lights and candles to give the feel of a special evening. I had decided to do an evening wine, cheese, and champagne scene so it was the perfect mood setter.
I sent everyone the message about the time and place and that it was a surprise party so they should keep quiet about it when they meet him.
It was a Friday night and we had planned to bring in his birthday together at 12 o'clock. I had told him that we should do a little dinner at a posh place to ring in his birthday at 12 and that's exactly what we did. While I tried to keep him away from my house his friends were doing the finishing touches for the party. They lit all the candles, kept the cake in place and when I texted them that we were coming over, they all hid behind the furniture.
As soon as we entered, of course, everyone jumped and screamed 'SURPRISE!'
The cake was cut, the champagne was popped, the cake was smashed on his face too and he even got birthday bumps.
All in all, it was a great evening and we had a fabulous time together. He enjoyed himself and I'm pretty sure I won the 'Girlfriend Of The Year' award.
