Getting paid to travel seems like a fantastical dream. Especially, for young kindred spirits who are filled with wanderlust but don't always have the resources to support it. They either work towards saving up enough to squeeze in maybe two or three trips in a year, which is not satisfactory in the least!
It is this thirst to figure things out that led us to look at some of our favourite bloggers who are doing exactly this. Fortunately, there is one place where we did find the answers... it is in the refreshingly unique blog of Jade (@thatgoangirl), one of our favourite Plixxo influencers.
I want my office to be wherever I feel like hanging out that day! And I’m grateful that I’ve been able to make that happen over the last 2 years. 🌸 For the last couple of weeks, I’ve started getting an overwhelming number of DMs, emails and even calls asking me how I do what I do.. and I decided to start blogging about it. So my 2nd Post in my ‘Digital Nomad’ series is up - How to Get Clients as a Digital Nomad,’ something that I know a lot of you are interested in. Elaborating in detail about how to monetise your love for travel, she suggests a balance between work travel and pleasure, the benefits of networking and working on your overall image to attract the right investors. Here are some ways she suggests you can sustain yourself if you wish to take up travel blogging:
A good way to make yourself visible to recruiters who are interested in lifestyle bloggers is the online classifieds ads. Go old school with this approach and sign yourself up for as many ad-websites as you can. Also, work towards building an impressive resume to showcase your uniqueness and strengths.
Many clients don't wish to post complete job profiles on recruitment sites. In such a case, it is always good to list your services instead, a full docket of what you can offer to a potential client if they are willing to work with you.
Facebook groups can be a gamble when looking to work with people who have similar interests. Exercise caution when using these groups to interact with potential clients. Do thorough research. Usually, a genuine vendor will give solid and complete information on how to reach them. Join as many groups as you can and spend enough time every day scanning through posts that were uploaded in the past 24 hours.
Whether it is about maintaining your old networks with previous employers or forming new ones... being proactive and forming professional relationships with people is crucial. Attend events, meetups, trade shows and other platforms you can find to interact with people. The more you get out of your comfort zone, the better!
Got a physical product to sell? Open an Instagram store. Can hold a note of a song and play some instruments? Show off! Building your own side scene can come in very handy when you wish to travel on the downtime.
This is not, of course, an exhaustive list of things you can do. But it can surely give you a head start. Good luck!
