Let me paint a picture. You’re out on the beach, making the most of your sundress, your straw hat and Polaroid camera. But as soon as you take off your hat, you realise that all those minutes of styling your hair in the morning were a waste. Hat hair is a real thing, guys. So if you’re heading for a beach vacation this month (good for you!), take a minute to read this article.
The thing about hat hair
Unlike slouchy hats or beanies, straw hats or fedoras literally sit on your hair and also make you sweat. The combination of perspiration and creasing causes your hair to sit flat and frizzy at times.
Since the hat is a must-have vacay essential and protects you against the sun, don’t skip it.
So what do you do about it?
If wavy hair is what you want, then all you should do is wrap your hair in a bun right after you shower and put a hat on. Take it off and soon as you hit the beach (or wherever else you’re headed to) and do a hair flip. Ask your guy to gram it. Run your fingers through your hair and voila, you’re done.
If you have thin hair like me, your hat would probably make it look flatter. To tackle this, you’d want to use a really good holding spray like Enliven Extra Hold Spray (Rs 295) or Batiste Stylist OOMPH My Locks XXL Volume Spray (Rs 749) on the roots to bring it that texture. Your volume won’t go down even after putting on your favourite straw hat!
If you’re up for carrying a small texturising spray or serum in your beach bag, you can spritz in your hands and just run it over your hair to avoid frizz and flyaways.
The last trick that never fails and is, when you’re putting your hat on don’t just make it sit as is. Flip your hair over to the opposite side (time for a Boomerang!) and then wear it. When you take your hat off, flip your hair back over to the side you normally wear your hair on and your hair will look fabulous!
