August is a busy month for Bollywood with some big names releasing films through the month. From Taapsee Pannu’s Mulk to Akshay Kumar’s Gold, some good movies are hitting the silver screen this month. Not just Bollywood though, even Hollywood has a chance with the second installment of the hit musical, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and the dreamy Disney film, Christopher Robin. Here are the releases of August we don’t want to miss.
1. Fanney Khan, August 3rd
Quite a star-studded film with Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkumar Rao, but the trailer barely leaves an impact. Fanney Khan just released and Rajkumar Rao is the only reason I will be watching it this weekend.
2. Karwaan, August 3rd
First things first, DulQuer Salman is a hottie and I can’t wait for his Bollywood debut. Plus, this is Irrfan Khan’s first release after the news of his illness came out. The trailer looks exciting and Mithila brings her the girl-next-door charm.
3. Mulk, August 3rd
The critics can’t stop raving about this film ever since the premiere. A strong storyline accompanied by some great actors, this one is a must watch.
4. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, August 3rd
A prequel of the original musical. It may not be as good as the first one, but the songs are enough to make me want to buy the tickets.
5. The Darkest Minds, August 3rd
Quite an impactful trailer with a refreshing cast, this movie might be my favourite on the list.
6. The Meg, August 10th
A sci-fi meets jaws experiment, this trailer will give you goosebumps. Also, Ruby Rose is a sight to behold.
7. Christopher Robin, August 10th
A simple and sweet tale of how Winnie The Pooh came to be. Nostalgic in every sense.
8. Gold, August 15th
Akshay Kumar brings yet another true story to the big screen with Gold. Maybe this film will make us value hockey more.
9. Satyameva Jayate, August 15th
John Abraham has an Independence Day release after his last patriotic movie, Parmanu. I’m hoping the movie will be better than the song, Dilbar.
10. Laila Majnu, August 24th
Two of India’s most iconic storytellers, Ekta Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali, come together to retell an iconic tale of love and sacrifice. This trailer is too enchanting to miss.
11. Teefa In Trouble, August 27th
Already a blockbuster in Pakistan, this film has me excited for Ali Zafar’s impeccable comic timing.
12. Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, August 31st
The Deol family is back with another comical installment. The only reason I prefer this series over the rest of the Bollywood comedies is that there is isn’t any sexist humour.
13. AndhaDhun, August 31st
The trailer of this film isn’t even out yet and it already has created a buzz. The date of release isn’t official, but we might get to watch this film by the end of August!
14. Stree, August 31st
One of India’s very few horror comedies, Stree is Rajkumar’s second film of the month and based on a scary legend.
So, make your plans already! Which one would you definitely watch?
