The first trailer of Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy starer Gold came out a week ago. But forget Akshay, we still get over how perfect is Roy for the role of Mrs Das (Akshay Kumar's wife) in the film. Not only is Mouni playing a Bengali woman for the first time in her acting career, Gold is also her debut into Bollywood.
Here are four fashionable reasons why we think Mouni Roy is the perfect Bengalan to play the role in an otherwise male-dominated movie.
Bengalis are known to include a lot of gold in their jewellery. Mouni Roy is shown wearing an elegant gold chain along with statement jhumkas (or regular for a Bengali lady, we think) while chilling at home. And the typical red bindi is just the cherry on the icing. Although, Mouni seems to be wearing her sindoor as bindi instead.

Ah, the famous Bengali saree drape! Just like a typical Bengali woman, Mouni is shown wearing a simple suti shari (cotton saree) in the traditional front-pallu drape and don't even get us started on her oh-so-thick and long hair. The traditional Bengali style of saree draping is one of the most stylish saree drapes till date.

Notice the all-gold jhumka and choker set? And you can tell by her printed saree that she's dressed for a special occasion. There's a third thing that Bengali women adorn as an accessory - a flower. We love how Mouni is wearing a full-bloom rose on her bun, which, BTW, is clean and low.
Messy bun, what?

The vintage vibe of the Victorian streets from the 1930's can be seen in the trailer in the form of the gorgeous puffy sleeve style. All of Mouni's saree blouses have this statement sleeves, a fashion trend that is back again in 2018.

The film traces the 'golden era' of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das (played by Akshay Kumar), a young assistant manager in 1936, who dreams of playing for an independent India. The film is based on the first-ever hockey medal that India won after Independence. Inspired by true events, the film is set to release around Independence Day this year.
