Snips & Cuts: Here's How You Can Transform Your Old Kurtas Into 5 Different Pieces!

In the mood to take a major wardrobe revamp project? we have just the thing for you! Head over to your closet, pick out all the kurtas and kurtis that you are bored of wearing as is, lay them beside each other and brainstorm. Apart from the usual long kurtas worn as dresses or paired with jeans, go a bit farther this time and take them to your masterji cuz' we have a few ideas what you can do with them.


There are just two things you need to succeed in this undertaking... a trusted tailor who can create contemporary silhouettes and gorgeous kurtas that you are willing to part with. If you are a proficient sewer, we have included a few DIY ideas as well! Here are 5 totally new styles you can create out of your kurtas & kurtis.


1. Stitch Two Different Styles Together

Now that you have all your kurtas lined up, pick out two different single pieces... one whose top half is fitted and the other with a flared bottom. Make sure that they look together, with not a lot of difference in their respective colours and prints. Slice them through and stitch them together to create a range of midi and maxi ethnic dresses.

2. Make A Dress Out Of It

All your lightweight kurtas and kurtis you own, specially made of cotton, silk and rayon fabrics, can be altered into pretty dresses. You can further improve upon them by adding a lining, a mesh tutu in the bottom half or added details in the hems.

3. Make Saree Blouses Out Of Them

Cotton kurtas with a straight silhouette can be turned into cropped tops and blouses. split them open to make a hooked front, alter the back and add tie-ups or get rid of the sleeves for a completely rehashed version. Your favourite kurta can now be paired with your favourite saree, voila!

4. Turn Them Into Jackets
