Starting something of your own is exciting, but it’s also demanding. You need to be constantly on your toes and deal with a hundred things simultaneously. Ask Kay from POPxo’s first web series Unmarried that follows her journey as the founder of a fashion start-up. An ambitious entrepreneur, she believes in herself and is setting out to accomplish her goals, but she’s also dealing with challenges that life throws her way. What drives her is the passion for work. That’s the life of a career-driven individual.
Are you ready for this? If you’re all set to start your own business, here are a few tips to keep in mind before taking the plunge.
1. Be Confident
You can’t begin something new if you don’t understand your own mind. Be confident of the step and analyse pros and cons before you make any big decisions.
2. Never Dive In Inexperienced
Always understand what you’re getting yourself into. If like Kay from Unmarried, you’re stepping into the fashion world, get yourself an internship or get work experience in the field. This way, you’ll be familiar with the inner workings of it all.
3. Love Your Idea
If you don’t believe in your little baby, chances are no one else will either. Be passionate about your idea, and work towards it step by step.
4. Trust Your Partners
Surround yourself with partners and co-workers who understand your idea and what you want to do with it. Also, trust them to make decisions because you can’t possibly do it all.
5. Get A Business Plan In Place
Sort out the tricks of the trade before you start your own venture. Go into the deep and discover how the industry you’re stepping into works.
6. Start Small
‘Go big or go home’ isn’t always a great advice. Be realistic with your goals and ambitions and don’t be impatient to have it all at once.
7. Name, Trademark, Legal Actions
There are a ton of legal processes that are involved in beginning something new from deciding on a name, trademarking it to registering a domain and business. Make sure to get all the legal formalities done in time.
8. Understand Your Customer
Know who your product is for. Especially in a startup, this is very important. Define them to the minute detail and customise everything for them.
9. Conduct A Market Research
Is your idea really that exciting? Does anything like it already exist? Are you solving a problem with your business? You need to answer these questions in an objective way before you put your blood and sweat into a business.
10. Hire Interns And Freelancers To Help
If you are in a money crunch and can’t afford full-time employees, get yourself interns and freelancers who are looking for the exposure that a start-up can give them.
