Ever since the trailer of Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju was released, we have been sitting on the edge of our seats, waiting for more. Whether it’s the brilliant Ranbir Kapoor playing Sanjay Dutt in the biopic or the glittering star cast… it’s an undeniably exciting film.
Today, we get a another peek at the film with the first single from the Sanju album finally out. The vintage style song, Main Badhiya Tu Bhi Badhiya, at first glance, is a true-blue desi song with all the pre-requisites of being a Bollywood hit. An upbeat rhythm, a unique setting and a quirky concept… but there’s more to the song video that meets the eye! The song, sung by celebrated Bollywood singers Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan, features Ranbir Kapoor aka ‘Sanju’ lip-syncing to a woman’s voice along with Sonam Kapoor (playing his girlfriend) and dancing to the catchy beat. The 1980s feel is unmissable in the song – the costumes, hair styles and the music and lyrics sure take you back in time. More importantly, the song is an insight into Sanjay Dutt’s relationship with Tina Munim, which seems crazy and adorable.
The background seems to originate with Sunil Dutt’s (Sanjay Dutt’s actor father) lack of confidence in his son’s lip-syncing abilities at the start of his career. So, Main Badhiya, Tu Bhi Badhiya is, in fact, Sanju attempting to sing convincingly to a woman’s voice.
