Breaking up with someone is not easy. Even though, in my case, the break up was mutual because we felt that we had grown apart over the years; yet, getting over the loving memories and considering the scenario of falling in love again was painful. I was in a difficult phase of life and had reached the conclusion that love was just not for me!
After a few days of staying in my pyjamas and binge-watching sappy tv shows, I pulled myself together. It took me weeks to finally realise that life didn’t stop because of one bad break up. My friends (and many romantic comedies) encouraged me to give love another chance. Months passed before I finally gathered enough courage to actually do something about it.
It was almost after a year that I downloaded a few dating apps that were almost the same. I even spotted a few common people on them. However, one app that stood out was Woo. The reason was simple: It helped me find people with similar interests and it had women-friendly features for safety that reassured me about its privacy.
I was swiping right on every guy whose profile gave me an insight about his life. I have always been attracted to people who have similar interests as me. Opposites attract just isn’t the mantra for me because I like to be with someone who I have something in common with. There is a certain comfort I take in knowing that my partner and I are on the same page. To my surprise, this app matched people who were alike in different ways.
Also, I am a very private person, but the fact that all my confidential information on the app was absolutely safe which gave me a certain sense of security. Another feature that got my attention is the in-built calling feature which is so easy without me having to share my number.
And this app is exactly how I met my current boyfriend and future, possibly, fiance! I’d swiped left on a guy by mistake but once I checked his profile out again, I realised he was a very interesting person. Thanks to the Woo Plus feature, I could go back and swipe right on him. And I did! After chatting with each other for weeks, we finally decided to meet and boy, our first meeting was everything I expected it to be and more!
Even after a lot of amazing dates, I was still unsure of being in a relationship with him. It was the classic case of ‘once bitten, twice shy’. But, one day, in the middle of the night, he decided to confess his feelings to me. He told me how he couldn’t continue being in a casual relationship with me because he wanted something more serious as he really liked me. He knew my history, so asked me to take some time and figure out what I wanted.
I didn’t spend much time trying to figure out what I wanted. In my heart, I knew I wanted to be with him. I was falling for the guy more and more with every passing second and I couldn’t let some irrelevant fear keep me away from him. Finally, I called him the next night and said, “Will you, officially, be my boyfriend?” And the rest, as they say, is history. I cannot thank Woo enough for helping me meet the man of my dreams. When they say technology changes lives, I did not know they meant this!
