Indian-American Dhivya Suryadevara Is The First Female CFO Of General Motors

Indian-American Dhivya Suryadevara will take over as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of General Motors (GM), making her the first-ever female finance chief at the No. 1 US automaker. Dhivya, who was vice president of corporate finance at General Motors, is set to begin the role in September.

This makes GM among a select few Fortune 500 companies to have appointed women to two of its top-ranking management seats. Mary Barra was appointed the company’s CEO in January 2014.

A fast-climber, Dhivya has received this promotion in only about a year’s time with her dedication to the company along with a willingness to strive for excellence.

During her 13 years at GM, she has helped the company achieve numerous credit rating upgrades and recently played a role in securing a $2.25 billion investment earlier this month. As a VP, she has been responsible for corporate financial planning, investor relations and special projects.
