After Virushka, it was Sonam Kapoor's wedding that was the most talked about in the media. From the star-studded guest list to SRK, Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor setting the stage on fire, the festivities went viral and that was pretty much all that people spoke about during those three days. Sonam's wedding was followed by her appearance at Cannes and while her outfits did not cause a major stir, it was her mehendi clad hands that caught the attention of International media.
On her second day at Cannes, the newlywed actress wore a voluminous Vera Wang tulle gown and accessorized it with Chopard earrings, her enormous wedding ring and mehendi hands. While the mehendi was slightly faded, it still managed to stand out prominently and made it to the fashion segment of many International publications.
"Indian actor Sonam Kapoor hit the iconic festival red carpet on Tuesday for a screening of her latest movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story, wearing beautiful henna tattoos that were etched from the tips of her fingers to her elbows on each arm. She proudly posed with a hand on each hip to make sure that the tattoos caught your eye. While the look is not completely visible from afar, once you see it, you can’t look away — the artistic creation is truly mesmerizing.
The use of Henna-based dye (with mehndi being the official term for the semi-permanent tattoos themselves) is most often associated with Hindu culture and is typically worn by brides ahead of a wedding, or in celebration of certain cultural holidays and festivals," quoted one of the leading fashion magazines.
For Day 1 too, Sonam decided to wear a Ralph and Russo outfit which made her look like a perfect Indian goddess. She styled her hair with a braid accessory by Amrapali that absolutely stood out. The newlywed couple has also been in the news for changing their names post marriage. While Sonam is now Sonam K Ahuja, her husband too added her initial to his name, Anand S Ahuja.
Well, kudos to Sonam for wearing her bridal mehendi with so much confidence and actually making it a style statement on the Cannes red carpet. You go, girl!
