Deepika Does ‘Ditto’ In Similar Outfits By Two Different Designers!

With the ‘Diet Sabya’s of the world making their mark, you can’t help but have an eye out for potentially ‘inspired’ designs or copies. While the accused is always a smaller, more local designer cheating off couture labels or in some cases international ones, the subjects in question today are both couture specialists known for very different genres of design.

The designers in question are Anamika Khanna and Manish Malhotra. As all of us already know, Deepika and Ranbir walked down the ramp, hand-in-hand, as Malhotra’s showstoppers at his Walk Of Mijwan show last month. The ensemble, she walked down in, was bewitching, to say the least, with beautiful chikan embroidery adorning the length of the outfit.

A plunging V-neck and embellished detail on the snow white blouse and an A-line lehenga with floral thread work with an extravagant ruffled hem that gave it the 3D effect it needed. Let’s not forget the beautiful dupatta train that followed her as she walked up and down. One-of-a-kind, or so we thought.

On the same day as Malhotra’s show, Deepika was announced as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People. An honour as it was, a week later, when Dips travelled to New York to attend the felicitation event, we were slightly confused.

The Padmaavat star looked more than deserving of the TIME title. I mean, with a brilliant film track record and looks that could kill, of course, she’s influential. Deepika glowed on the red carpet in an all-white saree-gown with signature ‘Anamika’ embroidery and a blouse with a statement ruffled shoulder.

The flashback her aesthetic gave us got us like…

Anamika Khanna

Now, look here, There’s no denying that Deepika’s looks from two different events, from two very different designers, i.e. Manish Malhotra and Anamika Khanna, have glaring similarities:

Coming to the tops, i.e. the blouses, they both evidently have plunging necklines. They also share the threadwork theme – Manish Malhotra’s embellished blouse, as well as Anamika Khanna’s embroidered one, both have flower and leaf motifs common between them.

4. The Earrings

Dips walked for the Mijwan show in emerald drop earrings by Farah Khan Fine Jewellery. Would you believe that a week later, the Bollywood actress was at the TIME’s red carpet wearing strikingly similar emerald earrings by the same jewellery designer? Yes, it’s true.

You see it, don’t you? The slicked back, neatly parted hair tied into an effortless ponytail. Even the pictures have the poses in common. What’s going on?

Maybe it’s imitation, maybe it’s an inspiration. However, we just think it’s a coincidence, helped along by Deepika’s growing love for this aesthetic… maybe? Will Dips pick something similar for her wedding trousseau? Or we could just wait and let her stylist, Shaleena Nathani weigh in on this!
