Almost every girl who has ever been in love dreams of the day her Prince Charming will go down on one knee and confess his undying love while slipping a rock on her finger and promising to be by her side forever and ever! Well, we know this sounds too fairytale-ish, but some of these super cute proposals by Bollywood and Television celebrities are dreamier than fairytales themselves.
1. Karan Singh Grover – Bipasha Basu
They fell in love while filming for Alone and there was no looking back for the ‘monkey’ lovers. But something really interesting happened when Karan proposed to Bipasha. Her reaction was completely unexpected. Here’s how Karan told the tale:
“We were in Koh Samui, it was 31 December and the sky was lit with fireworks. I was carrying the ring with me and something told me that this is the right time. So while she was capturing the fireworks on video, I took the opportunity and gave her the ring. And guess what? Her expression was like that of someone who was going to be murdered, like in some of her films.
Just imagine… I am on my knees for 10 minutes and between sobs, she tells me, “What’s wrong with you, why do you want to marry me? I am not supposed to get married!” Finally, she said “Okay”. To me it sounded like a yes, so I said I will take that.”
That’s unexpected but so touching! No wonder these two are so madly in love with each other, and even 2 years after tying the knot, they are still enjoying that sweet honeymoon phase!
2. Shah Rukh Khan – Gauri Khan
One would expect a super filmy and dreamy proposal from the King of Romance, right? Well, it was everything a girl can ask for and more. Gauri and SRK met in Delhi and had been dating for a long time before some issues cropped up and they decided to take a break. During this time, Gauri came to Mumbai with her friends, without telling Shah Rukh.
That was when he realised how much he was missing her and wanted to be with her. He came to Mumbai and after a frantic search found her on a beach. They both realised the extent of love they felt for each other and broke down. SRK proposed to his ladylove and obviously, she said yes!
3. Abhishek Bachchan – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Abhishek fell for Aishwarya while shooting for Kuch Naa Kaho with her. But they both realised that they loved each other on the sets of Guru. Jr. Bachchan, while telling the story of his love and proposal once confessed in an interview, that while filming in New York, he used to stand in the balcony of his hotel room and wish about how nice it would be if he were married to Aishwarya.
And destiny granted him his wish. While Aish and Abhi were in New York for the premiere of Guru, he took her to that same balcony and proposed. Of course, she said yes!
4. Saif Ali Khan – Kareena Kapoor Khan
Although she is one half of a couple who is generally very quiet about their personal lives and their relationship, Kareena once opened up about her relationship with Saif on a television chat show. When asked about how Saif proposed, she gave a very interesting answer:
“He actually proposed to me a couple of months after we met, in Paris. In fact, his father (late cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) had also proposed to Sharmila Tagore in Paris when she was shooting for the movie ‘An Evening in Paris’.
I think it was at the bar of Ritz Hotel that he proposed and I said no. During the same trip, he asked again when we were at the Notre Dame Church. I was just like ‘Let’s not talk about it’. Because I was into my career and I asked him for some time to think about my decision. And well, two days later I said yes.”
5. Soha Ali Khan – Kunal Kemmu
Continuing with the family legacy, Soha also got proposed to in Paris. Seems like the Pataudi clan has a special attachment to this place. She was on a month-long Europe vacation with beau Kunal Kemmu. Kunal decided to surprise Soha with a proposal in the most romantic city in the world. So, even though Paris was not a part of their vacation itinerary, he made sure to pull off the perfect proposal, and of course, Soha happily agreed!
6. Divyanka Tripathi – Vivek Dahiya
Divyanka and Vivek’s engagement came as a surprise to many. But just because neither of them publicized their relationship, doesn’t mean that they do not have a beautiful love story. In an interview, Divyanka talked about how Vivek proposed to her, and it is just so sweet:
“We went to Bangalore and it was the first time Vivek was meeting my parents. Though we were aware of our feelings, I never thought that he will take a step further. My birthday falls on 14 December and my mother’s birthday falls on 13 December. So, after celebrating my mom’s birthday, we went out for dinner. I was expecting that after coming back home, I will get some surprise, but I never expected something as grand!
When I entered my house, the entire place was brightly decorated with flower petals and lights. At the end of the passage, Vivek was standing with a T-shirt in his hand. On one side of the tee were the words ‘You are my answer to every questions’ while the other side had ‘Divyanka, marry me’. He stated that I have everything that anybody can give me, except commitment. He said he was ready to present me with that. It is one of the most unforgettable moments of my life. I was waiting for this day my entire life.”
7. Shoaib Ibrahim – Dipika Kakar
Shoaib and Dipika met on the sets of their show Sasural Simar Ka and eventually fell in love. They participated in the couple dance reality show Nach Baliye and that’s where Shoaib went down on his knees on national television and asked Dipika to be his life partner forever. It was a very touching moment, and an overwhelmed Dipika obviously said yes! Their beautiful and private wedding ceremony was a treat to watch.
8. Ravi Dubey – Sargun Mehta
Ravi and Sargun’s love story is a very dreamy one. And how he proposed to her was even dreamier. They participated together in the fifth season of Nach Baliye. Ravi gave his lady a proposal fit for a princess, complete with him going down on one knee and slipping a solitaire on her finger.
9. Karan Mehra – Nisha Rawal
Karan Mehra has been known for his shy and reserved personality, both on-screen and off-screen. So, it came as quite a bit of a shocker to everyone, when he proposed to his ladylove Nisha in front of the entire media and crew on his birthday. Nisha was overwhelmed and extremely happy. And of course, she said yes.
