Could Jacqueline’s Version Of ‘Ek Do Teen’ Be In Legal Trouble?

Created as a tribute to Madhuri Dixit, Jacqueline Fernandez’s ‘Ek Do Teen’ from Baaghi 2 is under fire from almost every angle, sparing one – Salman Khan (but, more on that later). The song is being called vulgar and insensitive by angry fans and the original makers.

The director of the original track ‘Ek Do Teen’ from the movie Tezaab, N Chandra has also clearly expressed his dislike towards the remix song and is quite upset with Baaghi 2 filmmakers. He told The Quint that he intends to take action against them. He strongly believes that action against it is needed as he mentioned that “Anyone can do anything to your creation just because there are no laws to protect our property.”

But, the furore doesn’t stop there!

Saroj Khan, the choreographer of the original song, had informed N Chandra of the remake during Sridevi’s prayer meet. Chandra revealed, “I met Sarojji at Sridevi’s prayer meeting. It was there that Sarojji marched up to me to tell me about it. Can you imagine how much it had upset her that she needed to vent at such a solemn occasion? Anyway she came to me and said, ‘Have you seen what they’re doing to our ‘Ek Do Teen’ number?’ I had no clue. Sarojji told me that the makers of Baaghi 2 were doing a new version of Ek Do Teen. She said she will take legal action against it.”

He went on to add, “I can’t believe they’ve done this to Ek Do Teen. It’s crass beyond imagination. And Jacqueline Fernandez doing Madhuri Dixit’s number? Give me a break! It’s like turning the Central Park into a botanical garden. Madhuri danced with such grace and innocence. This number is like a sex act.”

We can expect the director and Saroj Khan to definitely take action against the song. The Tezaab director further said, “Sarojji and I are definitely taking action. Amitji has rightly spoken about archaic copyright laws which allow such liberties to be taken. Can you imagine, Mr Bachchan would have no rights over his father’s writings? What kind of laws allow people to do such things? We must be allowed to exercise some control over what we create.”

Yes, the release of the song has created quite a stir amongst Bollywood fans, enthusiasts and insiders, alike. Followers even took to Twitter to express their sentiments, quite openly.

Here are some of the twitter reactions to the remix track that released around the weekend.

Just in case you needed a recap, this is the original song and video. We’ve got to hand it – One simply can’t replace a Madhuri Dixit original!

Turns out, as per DNA reports, Jacqueline has indeed been trying to get in touchc with our OG ‘Dhak Dhak’ girl to get feedback from Madhuri herself about the remix track. However, according to sources, she has been ignoring Jacqueline’s messages – something that seems to be the complete opposite of what the Dhak Dhak girl did for Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan for the remake of ‘Tamma Tamma’ in Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. She appreciated the duo publicly and even went to the extent of meeting them and teaching Alia the steps to the original moves.

Looks like Baaghi 2 will have to wait, or try harder to garner some positive – let alone rave – responses because there’s too much trouble surrounding it right now!
