Chop It Right: Fail-Proof Ways To Trim Your Bangs At Home!

We’ve all played hairstylist at some point in our lives. However, the thought of trimming your bangs may seem daunting at first, but how would you know unless you give it a shot, right? You won’t only save your bucks, but you’ll also pick up a few hairstyle hacks along the way. At least once in your life, we urge you to experiment with your mane. There’s no need to look up for YouTube tutorials or ask a friend for help, we’re with you at every step! If you go by every word we say, we bet you’ll be able to trim your own bangs at home like a pro. Let’s get started, shall we?

Step 1: Spray your bangs with lukewarm water

Remember this golden rule, ladies – never cut your hair when it’s dripping wet or super dry. Your hair should be slightly damp to avoid making the wrong move with the scissors. Don’t do things in a rush and set aside at least an hour or two to cut your bangs. Spray your bangs with water and use a hairdryer to dry them out. Don’t stop until you’ve combed your bangs straight and they’re about three-quarters dry.

Step 2: Befriend your bobby pins and hair ties

To avoid the distraction of flyaways messing with your forehead and face, gently pull the rest of your hair back and tie it up into a loose ponytail. Once that’s done, use bobby pins to clip back your strands at the sides. Trying this technique will save you from making any mistakes while giving your bangs a trim.

Step 3: Use transparent plastic tape

When using a transparent plastic tape to trim your bangs, NEVER cut below the tape. Make sure that you stick the tape half an inch above your bangs. If you have a blunt fringe, you can either place the tape in a straight line or at a slanted angle if you want to add an edgy touch. The main reason why we asked you to stick the tape in the middle of your bangs is that, even if you mess up, you can always go back and fix it without ruining the length of your bangs. For a woman who has fine hair, if you’re worried about the tape being too sticky on your hair and damaging it, we suggest that test the tape on your wrist first and then put it on your bangs. You’ll be able to remove the tape with minimal effort if you stick to this trick.

Step 4: Pick the right shears

Please refrain from using a kitchen or an pair of office scissors to trim your bangs. Most of the time, the blades are blunt and using these shears to trim your bangs is like asking for trouble. Invest in a heavy duty hairdressing shear that is designed for cutting hair. For blunt bangs, divide your hair into tiny sections and slowly begin to sip in starting from the outside corners of your bangs. For feathery ends, hold the scissors horizontally and gently cut in a zig-zag fashion.

Step 5: Continue until the end

In the process of trimming your hair, don’t stop as you will lose momentum. We think you should do it in one go! Don’t stop cutting until you reach the other side. After doing this, gently remove the tape and blow dry your bangs. If you’re unsatisfied with the results, do all the 5 steps again. (This time with precision and cautiousness.)
