10 Quotes About Love By Gabriel García Márquez That Touched Our Souls

When someone mentions ‘romance’, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet pop up in your brain. His words remind you of the love story that spanned decades and eras, showing you what eternal love was supposed to feel like.

Call me crazy, but for me, there hasn’t been a more potent and incredible kind of love than the one that beloved Gabriel Garcia Márquez has penned in some of his most beautiful works. From One Hundred Years Of Solitude to Love In The Time Of Cholera and even The Autumn of the Patriarch, Márquez pushed the Latin American narrative to the forefront of world literature and gave us the beauty of his words.

To honour the Colombian literary figure, Google doodle celebrated what would have been Márquez’s 91st birthday.

Márquez started as a journalist and wrote many acclaimed non-fiction works and short stories. His works have achieved significant critical acclaim and widespread commercial success, most notably for popularising a literary style known as magical realism – a technique that uses magical elements and events in otherwise ordinary and realistic situations. Some of his works are set in the fictional village of Macondo and most of them explore the theme of solitude.

Márquez was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Upon Márquez’s death in April 2014, Juan Manuel Santos, the President of Colombia, called him “the greatest Colombian who ever lived.”
