Get Rid Of That Double Chin With These 10 Easy & Effective Yoga Exercises

Now, I know that a slightly chubby double chin isn't exactly life-threatening. But as a former chubby baby, I used to envy everyone who had defined cheekbones and no sign of a double chin. Now, after years of working out, I do have, what I like to think of as, an almost jawline. While my fitness routine did help me a lot to get that definition, there was something else that helped me more - facial yoga. So here are a few facial exercises you can do to get rid of the fat on your face. After all, the muscles in your face are just like muscles anywhere else in your body, you need to work them out to make them stronger.


Facial yoga has so many benefits, it's crazy. Not only does it give you that enviable jawline, it also reduces the double chin and helps you look younger. These exercises ensure that there is a greater flow of blood to your face and improved blood circulation helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and age lines. Which also means a healthy, clear complexion and a beautiful glow. So if you want to enhance your features and get some insta-worthy side profile shots, here are some facial yoga exercises to do.


1. Puff 'Em Up!


Puff up your cheeks by filling them with air as we used to do it when we were little kids. Shift the air from one cheek to another a few times, preferably five on each side. Then release the air while making an 'O' with your lips. Repeat this a few times a day - when you're travelling to work or even while you're sitting on your desk!

Maybe Gossip Girl was onto something. Repeatedly say 'X' and 'O' in an exaggerated manner and hold each alphabet for about five seconds. Release and start again. Doing this about eight to ten times a day will help burn excessive cheek fat.


3. The Locked Tongue Pose


Put your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Then open your mouth as much as you can, with the tongue still placed there, until you feel a stretch in your neck. Hold the position for a few seconds and repeat this a few times.


4. Fish face


While duck face and fish face selfies may be really popular, they help with toning and defining the face as well. Suck in your cheeks and lips to make the 'fish face'. Now holding that, attempt to smile. You'll feel a strain in your cheeks and jaw. Repeat five times. And we won't judge you if you're taking some selfies while you're at it!

5. Lift Your Cheeks


Start by smiling as wide as you can. Now place the index and the middle fingers of both hands on both your cheeks. Now, with the fingers, lift your cheeks up towards your eyes. Hold for a few seconds and then relax. Repeat a couple of times. Instant cheek lift!


6. Neck Roll


Remember every time you rolled your neck in a circular motion when your shoulders were hurting? Well, turns out, that exercise is amazing for your face and double chin. Do it in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions a few times but make sure you keep your shoulders down and spine straight while doing it.


7. Focus Your Eyes


This one looks really funny when you do it but it's worth it. Open your eyes as wide as possible without crinkling the forehead. Once that's done, stare at a point in the distance for 10-15 seconds. Repeat this a few times and you'll have smooth, wrinkle-free eyebrows and forehead.

8. Stick Your Tongue Out


Yes, that's literally all you need to do. Stick your tongue out as far as you can and hold this pose for a minute. Repeat this five to seven times every day.


9. Lower Lip Over Upper Lip


This exercise can help you reduce the excess chin fat pretty quickly. Move your lower lip and place it over your upper lip. Then, look up at the ceiling and hold this position for at least ten seconds. Return to the starting position and repeat this for a minimum of ten times every day.


10. The Joker


This one I've nicknamed as 'The Joker' after the supervillain from The Dark Knight. Look straight ahead with your head in a normal position and smile as wide as you can. You should feel a strain on your cheeks. Hold the smile for about 15 seconds before returning to the resting position and starting again. Doing this for about five times a day will help you get rid of the double chin and chubby cheeks.
